The answer is NOWHERE, you have to buy HP hardware, there is no install of the software itself! The only other way is to restore the image from the HP original (or torrent etc) DVD, adjust Windows drivers and enjoy.... So far only EX47x restore disk is available, would be nice to find the EX48x, as it allows update to 2.5 software right now sebus
Code: [manufacturer] hp/compaq [crc32 hashes] oembios.bin 91d07352 oembios.cat d05d250e oembios.dat 4c0aa9a5 oembios.sig ee9277f0 [slp strings] f000,e049,6,hpqoem
Even version 1.3.8.25155 & before allow you to turn off the hardware notification (it is under Network - why?) sebus
If you're talking about the "ignore this issue" checkbox, thats what i've been doing. Although when the server restarts the critical notifications reappear and you have to keep checking them to ignore.
Hey Guys, I tried a couple of times on the weekend to use that restore disk, and got nowhere. If fact I was having more success on the VM I tried two different AMD systems for four different NIC cards, but could never get either the 'MSS Recovery Disk' or 'WHS_RECOVERY.EXE' to find the server. All the NIC's had drivers in the WinPE image and had got an IP from the router. Anyone have any ideas what I missed.
Did you disable firewall on both ends? Did you read my fully adjusted guide in post 27 The restore image is syspreped, so if the storage controller is supported (preferable legacy IDE) then it will rebuild on pretty much any hardware sebus
Hi Sebus, Both the 'Server' PC's were booted from WinPE so no firewall there, and I used the same 120gb IDE HD in both. I'll re-read the post and have another go this weekend.
"...from WinPE so no firewall..." In fact firewall IS there by default and you do need to disable it sebus
Hey Sebus, I went back and read your updated post. I figured I'd try Hyper-V again, as you'd used VMWare. But still with no sucess. Either I get BSoD or a blank screen on reboot. I tried updating my PP3 VM, but without clearing the partition table. Just applying the image, that had the same result. I'll try the real PC's again on the weekend. My luck might have changed by then
You have to update the partition tables! It is odd, but the first partition starts at offset 32 and NOT as normat 1024 "..Hyper-V supports both IDE and SCSI controllers for VHD and passthrough.." Make sure you do you use IDE controller (that can be the only cause of BSOD) Black screen would mean no boot at all (means you have the partitions wrong) sebus
I got the same result 'Blank Screen' whether I updated the partition table or not. So its got to be more than that offset that it doesn't like. You can't boot from the SCSI controller in Hyper-V. There are no IDE chanels on my MoBo, only SATA. I think thats why I get the BSoD when I use a real HDD (passthrough) When I restore the 'Image' only to a working WHS VM it shouldn't effect the partition setup, should it? I tried the restored VHD in 'Virtual Server' today but it still sat there with a Blank Screen.
Blank Screen mean NO BOOT Set the SATA in your BIOS to legacy IDE Or use Vmware Workstation, it just works sebus
Post 27 was edited with a list of RS links for HP MSS image in Drive SnapShot 1.3 format It is exactly same syspreped image as on a Recovery DVD, but easier to work with IMHO sebus
Thanks Sebus, I think I know whats going on now and was about to ask if you could post the hash for your recovery disk. I guess I don't need to now I sat and watched the process this time and noticed that 'WHS_RECOVERY.EXE' jumped from 15% to 31%, from 36% to 50% and then to 100% So its never actually restored the full image.
whs Ive had a version of whs installed for a few months on a home built server or should i call it spare pc. not sure if its oem or what but was a bit of a fiddly job to get the 30 31 days nag thing to go away. Its not activated as such but i followed some info on how to deactivate the time bomb 31 days thing, and untill now seems fine. If anyones intereted in that let me know and i will post the method used. Theres also a bit of tweeking of the registry to be done, but the 2nd time i did it i could d o it all within 10 minutes so no big deal.
Whs_recovery_server.exe Hi, I was wondering if anyone could post WHS_RECOVERY_SERVER.EXE file and WHS_RECOVERY_DLL.DLL from the 2nd generation HP servers - EX485 or EX487. sebus previously posted WHS_RECOVERY_SERVER.EXE from 1st generation server EX475. TIA.
