Its a paided for upgrade, i've only heard the US price so far $25. Not sure if you'll need 'proof of purchse' to order it. But someone will hopefully to upload a torrent once its released.
The operative word being "hopefully" That did not happen with other disk (the only copy on NG was completly buggered) sebus
Well if u go off past HP conduct IE IPAQ HX4700 was shipped with Windows Mobile 2003 and when Microsoft launched 2005 HP made the upgrade free download when like 1 month later it was pulled and became a paid for a Update CD Disk........ OK my main reason for posting is i just imaged the Snapshot image to my test setup of spare hardware. Intel Pentium Dual Core 1.6Ghz, 2Gb DDR2, 120gb IDE, nForce 680i mobo, Geforce 8600gts......going to be a fully server changed to micro atx etc in a month. Server Started up Perfect of the HD just cant use anything as got to install drivers.... burning cd with them on now to try
ok drivers installed but the console wont start as backup service not started ...installed the connector software on a pc but server initalize bit failes and then the tray software says backup service not started error ...so checked event viewer and says it wont start as no disk found with enough free space needs at least 20gb free had 99gb free disk space partion no joy ... changed it to one big 120gb by resize with partion magic on hirens boot cd and no go either ? ...oh and i got the errors of no sares found ? have i missed something here?i know ehen i did place home server install it did C:\ 20gb hd with os, and D:\ 99gb with share data...... hp image just got one 20gb hd with os that seems to have share folders on C how does hp do the hd part same as normal ... should i install normal HS then just image the HP version over ? the normal leaving the 99gb in place ?
Restore again, it basically did NOT build itself correctly. And possibly when it reboots disconnect CDROM drive (physically, or disable in BIOS) When it builds the share folders DO get moved to data partition (it looks weired, but it is how it works) sebus
Well, i dont know exactly, but i recon there is a difference in the virtual hardware, at least for the cpu (mine detected a amd proc from my amd host) and i think also the (virtual) ethernet card was non generic gbit.. but i can be wrong, of course. isnt there a ace (or something similiar) feature with vmware for totally independend images? As for not running on my real hardware- i did not get it to run on an old pc of mine (the image). But i will get my intel ss4200 (scenio homeserver) today and try to run the image on that platform btw: it should be possible to restore the image using another pc with the hdd connected via external usb case, shouldn´t it? or do i have to boot in win pe on the actual machine an do the image restore on the hdd already built in. (this would be difficult with a server without video output)? an vmware is a great test workbench, esp. for fiddleing with boot/ install disks etc. not for everyday work of course.
Sure, you can restore it to a USB HD & then fit it in the actual hardware I think you asking for trouble trying to run HPMSS on Intel ss4200, but good luck to you... sebus
Best mobo is an old mobo with IDE interface & AMD processor Motherboard is not a problem, as long as you make the interface as legacy & when built (before running connector) install all needed drivers sebus
thanks but you where right, didn´t work .. yet. tomorrow i will get my pcx extender to get a video output / feedback from the machine. how difficult is it to add needed drivers to the snapshot image? harder than building slipstreamed boot disk? might this work: installing additional drivers on running vmware image and migrate to real server?
You could install it on VM & then sysprep again & move it elswhere Of you can restore, boot into WinPE, check where the drivers path points & add extra drivers there before reboot & syystem build It is only W2K2 server, so you can play with it sebus
well, i just decided to drop the idee of installing mss on my machine. after all, i got a valid whs license and the underlying idea of a windows home server for me was having somthing reliable. so too much hacking might not have been a good idea in th first place my sucess so far, concerning the intel ss4200 was geting past the first bsod (right after bios, instant restart) by changing bios hdd to ide. but install process failed at the network drivers. my alternative route to success was meant to be using acronis universal restore, as mentioned somewhere in this thread. but getting it to boot from usb took some while and i still had to find a way to convert the .sna image to acronis. so i will use vanilla whs, maybe with some mss addins if possible thanks for your help!
Adding Storage Drivers after Snapshot Restore? Can anyone give me some advice on how to install storage drivers after performing the restore of the Snapshot image posted in message #27? I have my C: drive set up as a RAID1 mirror using the onboard Intel RAID controller on my mobo. I tried booting using a BartPE disk and copying over the "IASTOR.SYS" into the c:\Windows\System32\Drivers directory, but that didn't work. Anyone have any ideas?
Ok, I figured out that disabling my onboard RAID would let me boot. Now I have another problem. The server setup finished and I was brought to the admin desktop. However, I don't seem to have any of the HP MSS Software? It looks like just vanilla WHS with the exception of Firefly Media Server. Do I need to do something special to get the MediaSmart software? I restored from the SNapEX47x image on RS thinking that would give me HP add-ins.
Did you actually configure the server from the client using connector software? copying over the "IASTOR.SYS" is not enough, you would need to add the required entries to the registry of the server (know what entries, boot server via WinPE, load systsem hive, add the entries, unload hive) sebus
trying to install using "HPMSSRecovery.iso" do i need to inject network drivers in PE when using VMWare? run on vmware using win7pe: whs_recovery_server.exe - just stays at listening mode. run on pc: whsrcovery.exe - never finds the server. can ping the pc from win7pe.
Ok, never mind my last post, the software is there.. it's just an add-on to the normal Windows Home Server Console. I was somehow expecting it to be a standalone piece of software. I've successfully gotten the drivers installed and am booting off my RAID1 mirror. I have 5 x 500GB SATA drives attached in JBOD configuration to a Ciprico RAID controller, which are visible to Windows. I have added the 5 drives to the storage pool of WHS and I have a total of 2.25TB (or something like that), all empty and ready to go. However, after the restore from the SNapEX47x image, the server didn't have the five default shares (Music, Photos, Videos, Software, Public). I can't even create a shared folder -- every time I try, I get a red X on the first step. Also, when I launch the WHS Console from the admin desktop, I get five Java error messages, each one alerts me to one of the missing default shares. Any ideas?
