I just noticed a strange think i can not explain yet. There is a fan control issue. It seems that the fan does not spin at all when running on battery only. When ac adapter is plugged in it runs at constant rpm level (2500 rpm to be exact according to HWiNFO32). Please note that the setting in bios "fan always on when ac adapter is connected" is active. Of course you can spin up the fan manually with HWiNFO32 when on battery only but this is not an acceptable solution for me and i suppose for others. The possible causes for this problem according to me are: 1) the fan controller (SMSC EMC2113) does not read the correct temp and as a result does not sense the temp rise and ofcourse since it thinks everything is cool it keeps the fan stopped. The answer might be that the "donor's" bios p/n is WJ681AW#ABH and the freshly unlocked one is SJ751UP#ABA. Maybe there are address differences on the look up tables of temp controlling system. 2) the fan controller is faulty. To be honest i doubt that since it seems to behave normally when manually controlled through HWiNFO32 but again i'm not 100% sure 3) the actual temp sensor that the fan controller uses is faulty and sends wrong data to the controller 4) all or some of the above together. I'll work on it more tommorow again and i'll post results/thoughts. If someone has an idea i'm more that happy to hear it.
Hi there, Thanks for your efforts regarding unlocking BIOS on our HP laptops. I recently bought HP Elitebook folio 9470m, from ebay.de, unfortunately it haves locked BIOS, as there was no return policy, im here. I managed to force BIOS update, and it succeeded. I than also tried your tool, shotgun option, but every reply was "not supported". Is there any other way to try to unlock my BIOS ? Best regards, Ziga
Hello again everyone I've managed to clear the last error (PCID missing) but i could find the proper one under the battery or on the motherboard so i entered the machine's s/n The error message is gone and everything seems to be normal. (except for windows licence but this is not important for the moment) Does anyone knows if its ok to leave it as is, or does it affect something important so i should continue looking for a better solution Thanks in advance
Thanks for the tip! That worked! I updated the BIOS after getting in to the latest f.50 Now to find a 1.8" drive and drive adapter - they are missing from my 2740p!
glad it worked if there was a tool like that for IBM it would be great check eBay for a 1.8 sata drive will work they are not specific to HP , I get my 1.8 brackets and caddies on eBay as well fyi I only use eBay.com as shipping from outside USA is way too long
Dear Mazzif, and all! I tried your utility on HP 2710p, but bios pw still alive.... do you have any extra information about this modell, how to unlock bios pw? regards! thx e79
I would just like to say a bigThank you to Mazzif for the Password reset utility and information on how to force a BIOS upgrade. I now have 5 HP 6730b laptops that can be used again after the loss of my I.T. Manager. Thanks, Series2
Looking for the actual download - can't seem to find it. hook a brother up to unlock an 8560w please??
Hello, I have an HP Elitebook 2730p. And it's a pain in the ***. I've downloaded the tool, made an image on a disk and here starts the problem. It has an locked BIOS, so I don't even know what version I have. When I try to run the tool I receive information like this (no matter if the shogun for all models or just for my model): "UTILITY TO RESET BIOS Notebook is not supported (30eb)." I'm kinda lost, I haven't tried only to force update BIOS (currently can't even do that, because I can't download the file from HP site FFS...). EDIT: OK, never mind that. I've found the correct BIOS for this little prick (F20) and forced the update (as mentioned somewhere above, USB stick with Win+B key combination). After that the utility worked as a charm.
