I think this is the error retunred when the BIOS is to new. HP has broken support for my tools with their newer releases. In addition to that, we can no longer roll back. Only other option is to use the physical flash method, and write a clean older BIOS to the chip. -Cheers
You kinda shot yourself in the foot there with new BIOS rev 66. Newer BIOS rev breaks support for my tools. As is the growing theme here, physically writing a clean BIOS to your chip or contacting HP, or purchasing something from someone else are about your only Options. **OFF TOPIC RANT** I feel I need to say this. I never charged a cent here at MDL for my solutions. They were always available for free, right here on MDL, open to any and all. Please know that I myself, can no longer post my solution. I wont go into more details than to just say I am bound legally. But I know it is out there. And I also know some people are charging for it. That sucks These days, many people bring to my attention that other members are offering a 'PAID' solution for an SMC.BIN file. As I understand it, the solution does work. But notice these 'members' don't publicly post their solution. They lurk in the shadows and feed off your posts waiting for you to ask for help, and then contact you soliciting their 'product'. That is NOT in the spirit of MDL. I think these individuals are in the employ of HP and are using HP proprietary software to create the files, likely within the walls of HP. I did contact them, and wrote a few feeler questions and they were unable (or maybe unwilling) to discuss any technical details. In fact there was an overall lack of technical detail in all their communication. Anyway, that's my own personal feeling on the matter. If they truly did develop a solution of their own, I would think it would be way more public than it is, rather than just a vague youtube video here and there and some private messaging on a forum. Anyway, shame on them if that's true. **END RANT**
Hello @Mazzif - I'm pretty sure someone at HP took your tool and re-packaged it under a different name. Do a Google search for "HPBR.rar" and you'll find it.
@John Sutherland Tells you what to look for right above your post. Side note: I did use the acronym 'HPBR' early on. Originally, I did use a 'rar' package but changed to 'gz' and my package size was around 9MB. I then also changed the naming convention to HP BIOS Password Reset XX-XX-XX.gz (date code). HP BIOS Password Reset 04-11-16.gz was MY last update. Anything else is likely repack, so tread with caution. If you see anyone posting my work as their own, feel free to call them out on my behalf. -Cheers
Ok Mazzif... thank you for your answer... just one more question, do you know how to unlock MPM on HP probook 4740s ? Seems the windows + up + down arrows don't launch my SMC.BIN file (on usb stick). Thank you.
