I need help getting my old programs to work on my new computer

    Hello. My laptop died but I got a new desktop. I have the hard disk from the old machine and have been able to "take ownership" of my files but my applications give me an "access violation." Is there anything that I can do to reclaim these programs? The old system was 32 bit running XP, the new is 64 bit running Vista. Thanks

    Many, if not all, of your programs will need to be re-installed on the new machine. Merely copying and/or trying to run them from the old hard drive may not be enough--many required registry settings would be missing.
    Any utilities that you have may need to now be 64 bit compatible.
