Icons have dissapeared

    Have you tried changing your colour settings i,e, 32bit or 16bit

    no it won't. and upgrade cum repair install keeps your data and programs intact. but backing up your important first, doesn't hurt ;)

    Can you check these two registry keys:

    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons

and

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile
    (Thats a lowercase L in lnkfile)

    What do these entries look like on your machine?

    while i can't guarantee anything, i have done an upgrade/repair install. so far everything seems ok, no data loss.

    Well, theres the problem.

    29 is the icon 're-routing' of the shortcut arrow and no path to an icon is specified.

    Thus delete the ShellIcons entry, reboot, and your icons should be back to normal...
