I put my Desktop "tile" on the top left corner and then

hit 'Enter' at startup << maybe there is a start-up command (bat) for this ?

Yes, stick with W7 until W8 RTM and good activator are available. :D

I'll be sticking with W7 beyond W8 RTM, waiting for SP2 Beta.

I just could never get used to the metro crap.

So how about using Windows 7 explorer.exe, rename it to something like explorer7.exe and then replace the shell= registry setting with explorer7.exe? Maybe I should install Win8 again using Virtualbox and actually test it.

EDIT: Didn't work. Maybe because missing exports on some DLLs. Then again I did manage to use ReactOS explorer as shell after I renamed it to explorerR.exe and used shell=explorerR.exe. It is sometimes very slow, sometimes works normally. Copying and deleting files takes a while. Maybe it could be modified to work properly with Windows 8?

This was a very blue-eyed attemt. Did you really believe by simply exchanging files will bring your expected result? If this were so easy, everyone could build his own W9 or whatever. :D

I think that Sinofsky and Ballmer are kicking each other in the ass for their stupid idea of "metronizing" the desktop. As somebody said, they wanna push commercials right on desktop...:spam:. That's the only reason of creation of metro. A WoA tablet? :D Good laugh...there is no software to run on it, not to mention the weight of one. I'm not a tablet-fan, always preferred laptops&netbooks, but still...a wrong idea to begin with. As I said in another thread, adapt Win7phone for tablets and you'll have a winner...

I didn't know if it would work so I tried it and came to the conclusion that it does not work. To get it working might need some major modifications to W7 Explorer. My conclusion is that some other shell would be the way to go.
