I'm wanting exactly the same as you -- a completely untouched Windows 7 Home Premium x64 version -- so I've been checking in to see if you've had any luck getting a copy yet. Thumbs up?

    Oh, wow... thanks!

With or without SP1? Not a "media refresh"? No Windows Mail, either?

How is this file different than the X15-65733.iso in the "Windows 7 w/o SP1 and SP1 Media Refresh - Direct Download Links" thread (Windows 7 Repository sticky), other than it's a "Digital River Direct Link" rather than a "Microsoft.com Direct Link"?

I'd started a download of that awhile ago (still ongoing -- slowly), but I've wondered about it since I thought MS doesn't provide direct download links (but I really don't know, frankly, whether they do or not).

Anyway, Tito... cool! Thank you! :)

With SP1, Media refresh too ;)

MS only provides direct links for MSDN or technet downloads; retail customers are given digitalriver links :D

    X15-65733.iso = Without SP1 RTM release

    :smokecowboy:

    Btw, welcome buddy.

I'd understood, as you just said, that Windows Mail was removed from Windows 7.

Somehow, soon after a clean new installation of Windows 7 (from the "Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 with Media Refresh X-64" ISO linked here), I keep ending up with Windows Mail.

It's program files are found in Windows systems folders, in both the x32 and x64 Program Files (though not an icon elsewhere). Furthermore, it appears to be have been used on my system (though not by me) -- at least it's found associated with internet ports and system processes, anyway.

I've been experiencing weird stuff beyond my scope of knowledge, driving me nuts. (There are times when I've wondered about that literally -- am I being paranoid? But then, I have Mail, and I find things like an alert in the system event logs that said "the system administrator should investigate why remote dynamic links to programs were made.")

I investigate (poking around my OS, reading Help and Windows info, installing security or monitoring apps, and searching the web) but haven't really found a solution.

So, this is why I'm wanting an untouched Home Premium installation. That version contains fewer advanced functions meant for developers and IT types. I need to minimize possible exploit access points. (I also wonder about Windows Update, USB flash drives, non-MS programs I've installed, my DSL router/modem, WiFi, network adapter, other PC hardware and drivers, firewall settings, Windows NT and Powershell, along with security software and settings.)

Anyway, thanks for your help, Tito.

P.S. As you can see, I could use some good advise -- or therapy.

Well, the folder is present in Ultimate as well as Home Premium too, but it is not functional :)

Well, perhaps "removed" is a questionable choice of words by Microsoft, then. :)

A SysInternals tool shows Windows Mail as a hidden logon program, and I've found traces of activity otherwise, so I disabled it's logon registry about a week ago, just in case.

Just now, I searched online for info about those registry hive locations, and ran across a forum thread, from which I snipped a little:
The following post had this to say:
At one time or another, I've had MMC snap-ins added or deleted, found hidden IT/developer configurations for remote controllers, had my security console, firewall and non-MS security software hobbled or redirected, and more. I've got some snapshots, but since I'm still under 20 posts I can't post links yet.

I could show you some suspect files, drivers, configurations (often related to remote access to my PC), some which would prove to be Microsoft's interaction with Windows, but I think some would not. It's tough to discern how much of it is Microsoft when it is not identified as such, especially since malware typically hides within their file sets.

I check into file suspects and try to learn "good practices" through credible online sources, but making sense or acting on it is too complicated, time consuming or risky :vertag: -- more than I'm up to taking on, anyway.

Fortunately, right now, some recent efforts seem somewhat effective (disabled stuff I'm reasonably sure is nefarious, tightened up network vulnerabilities, including a firewall program besides Microsoft's, and am trying out a web-based network monitoring service.

Experience tells me to not to get my hopes up, though. o_O
