There must be a better way, to uninstall clean with dism.
I know how to do it on any version of 8.1/10 and server equivalent previous to 1809.
I think that method still works on Server 2019, but not on Windows 10 1809, where it is more hidden.

And @s1ave77 is right that it is used only in IE and Edge, where can be disabled.

100% Clean install, no drivers, no updates.
Everything is out of the box from Windows installation.

You could try this Group Policy:

    Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\DNS Client
Prefer link local responses over DNS when received over a network with higher precedence - set to Disabled

Also check the other policies related to LLMNR under the same Group Policy folder and see how they interact and which are suitable.

Otherwise, just assign a DNS name to your machine.

Doesn't do anything, still adds .local to the name.
1607 doesn't have this problem, it always works and shows only name.

Also if i ping a computer that has 1607 installed from 1809 it will also not add .local

.local is only added if i ping a computer that has 1809 installed.

Ok, I looking to update my 2016 LTSB and am not quite sure what to do with the 1809 update. Some have reported they lost no files others have lost all files in their user stored files.. Can't or did not find KFR in group policy.. If some one can tell me where this setting is I will disable it first, then move the user files to a new location. Tired of waiting on MS to solve this problem.

Did the deletion of files happen only when repair/reinstall or happens also later when working with it?
I have this 1809 .55 and i haven't seen any deletion so far (1-month of usage)..

As far as I know the deletion bug only happened during an upgrade from a prior version, and then only when 'known' folders like Documents were redirected elsewhere and for some reason the original folder still existed in the User Profile folder. I believe in those circumstances the bug caused the duplicate folder (in the User Profile) to be deleted, even if it had files in it.
