"I have just updated my windows using the October update (10, version 1809) it deleted all my files of 23 years in amount of 220gb. This is unbelievable, I have been using Microsoft products since 1995 and nothing like that ever happened to me," a user wrote on Microsoft's support forum.
Backup is always the FIRST action before doing any Upgrade! The best way would be to do even an HDD Imaging of the System HDD too! Doing such, the user has not 'just'[ a backup of Data (and Settings), he also has an Image of the System HDD for to roll back if anything goes wrong! use of an Image of the System HDD will also be faster than doing a 'repairing' or new and installation of the OS. People, like those mentioned in Post #1404, deserving the loss of data for their laziness to do a Data Backup at first!
It will be something like what happened with 1803 Completely new build but its number will be like this 17763.XX So, Clean install lovers, prepare for formatting your PCs again !!
I'm willing to bet this "never in the history of windows setup" deleting user files is connected to onedrive cloud storage cancer. Because I have been struggling for 5 hours to reproduce it and for the love of nadela I could not..
Yep, CU will restore all deleted files. P.S. Are you serious? Problems like this can be solved only by new build. I think my files were not deleted, at least all my folders in Documents remains the same count. P.P.S. Anybody thinks there's too many problems? Maybe Microsoft should not skip Release Preview next time.
Just suggestion for Microsoft make just one release version in one year don't blamed windows with errors and problems... For Microsoft is good time from 365 days for fixed stable release version, no need bugs and push beta then remove from release don't implementing stupid application beta. I have again preinstalled with 1803 all 3 pc because stupid problems with new hardware (2017-2018)...
I can't download the Media Feature Pack for 1809 from this link. Only 1803 and 1709 are showing in the list. Is there somewhere else I can download the Media Feature Pack? I have been scouring the microsoft website... EDIT: I have the N version. If I install the other, will I still need the feature pack..?
Because Microsoft are not lazy dumbass assholes, that put their customer's files under risk. Or they are?..
