have never seen such a bad floppy It is a mixture of ERD (emergency recreation disc) and a lot of homebrew nonsense. The disk creator has absolutely no idea what he did
if you want a original Boot CD 1.44MB image for ME use 7z and just extract the boot sector from the type 115 in the laguage you want eg. english 25A7C617B3FC0E009E2CE5E7B5D4BBA82537D8BE *[ENU] en_winME_115_oem-setup_cd1_20000608.iso open the iso with 7z -> open "[BOOT]" folder and extract Boot-1.44M.img EDIT: if you want use the Image for other Type of ME then comment out inside AUTOEXEC.BAT OEMSETUP.EXE /K "/IE /NF" -> ; OEMSETUP.EXE /K "/IE /NF" to avoid that OEMSETUP.EXE starts EDIT2: you can do the same for win98 and win 98SE EDIT3: This kind of Original 1.44MB Image have FAT12 with Microsoft Joliet extension (LFN Support for floppy) EDIT4: JO.SYS is present (Win98, Win98SE and ME only) this an eraly Boot extension to the IO.SYS and show a Boot option (language dependent) e.g English JO.SYS Code: Microsoft Windows 98 CD-ROM Startup Menu ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ 1. Boot from Hard Disk 2. Boot from CD-ROM Enter your choice:
What i find curious is why some OEM distros seems to be manufactured by Microsoft (this is not pressed cd's from OEM's) Spoiler OEM's like Compaq, Fujitsu etc surely would like to slap their own branding on cd's as well. Spoiler So in my mind that raises a question: did Microsoft manufacture OEM cd's? Microsoft's bootable floppy with CD support. Some info > #101 Spoiler
#104 EDIT3: This kind of Original 1.44MB Image have FAT12 with Microsoft Joliet extension (LFN Support for floppy) EDIT4: JO.SYS is present (Win98, Win98SE and ME only) this an eraly Boot extension to the IO.SYS and show a Boot option (language dependent) e.g English JO.SYS Code: Microsoft Windows 98 CD-ROM Startup Menu ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ 1. I don't get it. What do you do with Boot-1.44M.img? Put it on a floppy? Place it inside a non-bootable ISO to make it bootable? I haven't followed the thread and was looking for something else, so I might missed it. Sorry for that. By other type, I assume you mean other type than OEM version? Also, why is the [Boot] folder only visible when the ISO is opened with 7zip, but being invisible when opened with other programs? Also2, does Boot-1.44M.img contain the same content as a Windows Start Disk / Windows Boot Disk floppy?
Then I'll research the files which do not exist on the Internet. (added) However, the problem is that I have no optical disc products which do not exist on the Internet about Microsoft. I wish there was a solution about it. (added) I found only one disc I have, which does not exist on the Internet.
* During 1999-2001, the Microsoft Download Center also provided a preview version of SQL 2000 for download and trial, and the file format was .exe
