What we need to know is the brand name and model number of this laptop.
You then should get some answers to what drivers are needed or even if that laptop is supported.

Actually I'm still not sure it's detected my video card, I tried to use the video driver installation files on HP's site for the nc8000 and they all said they couldn't install because the card wasn't on the computer. Does microsoft have some sort of basic card I'm using? Device manager says I'm using 'standard VGA graphics adapter'. I'm just curious because the picture quality is definitely worse than it was on XP.

Is this a problem with Windows 7 compatibility with my hardware? If I buy windows XP will I be able to install all my drivers without any problems?

Ok, I downloaded that and in the pci devices section it tells me my wireless device is the Atheros 802.11g wireless network adapter, but I can't seem to find any drivers for that at all on the internet?

That's my graphics card but my wireless is different, I thnk I wrote it somewhere on this page.

The graphics card drivers are out of date. The AIT website if you follow the link I posted says I can use something called catalyst instead but that didn't work, so I have no idea what I can do about that.

I have the driver for my wireless network adapter now but I can't install it because it's a .sys file and as my computer can't detect it I can't right click on it and click 'update driver', so I have no idea what I can do about that either.

I'm open to any ideas at all.
