Does Windows 8 7880 can be booted on UEFI without CSM at all in the first place? As I have not verified yet. Who need Secure Boot anyway?
7880 should be the first leaked test version that does not require CSM to start Those who have the technology can challenge it, we can only maintain a wait-and-see attitude
I tested it on a physical machine, and the 7601 will reboot to the LOGO position and prompt to turn on CSM. 7880 does not need to turn on CSM, it can be installed directly. UEFI boot is to add the BOOTX64.EFI file The first time you enter the desktop, it’s stuck. It should be a problem with the 7800 itself. You can enter the desktop after manual reset. It would be perfect if the 7880 can guide the 7601 to install and enter the desktop
The software test is not as accurate as the physical machine test, maybe it looks very similar but the problem is not the same
Sorry, I can't do an accurate test bc I don't have an experimental physical machine with UEFI class 3, I have main and secondary PCs with UEFI class 3 (main supports CSM and have normal SSD drive, so, I can install Windows 7 and Vista on it), but I am not going to format my hard drive in order to just test first Windows 8 build to boot w/o CSM (also my secondary PC have an eMMC drive), so, I have to use VirtualBox to install and test
It’s okay, I mainly want to use the 7880 kernel to boot the 7601, but the 7880 is only available in English
Maybe you don’t need to install the 7880 system, as long as WINDOWS PE can enter the installation interface through the LOGO, it’s okay, I think If the 7880 kernel cannot be booted by UEFI, its PE program must also enable CSM to enter the installation interface
BTW, I also once tried to install Windows 7 on VirtualBox on UEFI using the disable VGA method, and it works, so, I don't think that I can't install 7880 on UEFI is VirtualBox's fault
It would be interesting to replace boot related files in standard Windows 7 setup with ones from 7880. With some luck we can get it work.
7880 belongs to 6.2 and not 6.1. It is different from 7601, so I don't think the software test is correct. 7878 still uses VGA.SYS, 7880 uses BASICDISPLAY.SYS and deleted VGA.SYS
