this fills a real niche, have not had a decent search thing since the days of dos.. i take my hat off to you!
My UAC settings are configured to "Always notify when ... (highest setting) ". UAC gets triggered every time I start the program. Your program goes to where it needs elevation. ------------------------- Change proposal: Can you modify the behavior of the program so that it can search on all drives on computer? Currently you have to select drive to where to search on. I have multiple drives (4) so I have to manually switch from drive to drive. Thx
@josh great thinghy, works like a dream! have not been able to search files since norton utilities ff.exe gave me a bsod in w95, umpteen years ago......... used explorer, mostly, since...a pain in the old neck... as a constructive comment, i would like to add the following. -icon. some more contrast [ dark handle to the magnifying glass,] and non-transparent glass would be better. -search options. it took me about 15 minutes to find out that when you want to search on extension, as i nearly always do, you need to say no filter, and add the extension sec in the filename window. -using extensions in related groups, like *.doc &*.pdf does not work for me. one extension at a time. also i would like to be able to select a directory to search, instead of an entire drive. -so how about a small help-file for such questions? [ yes i know it is more work, and yes, i am almost ashamed to suggest it after your posting of the the first decent search thing in 16 years, but i hope you realize my only intention is to help you improve it further..] regards, & respects, nodnar.
1. It can't find anything no matter what I search- no items found. 2. When it begins the searching (and moving to the second tab) + can't find anything, it goes back for half a second to the "File Searcher" tab, and returns to "Search Results" tab. 3. When hovering the options in the first & second tab, you might want to change these- Start the search > Start searching Only files will be searched > Files searching will be included ["Only"? and if I want other things to be searched? ) Only folders will be searched > Folders searching will be included [Same explanation as before ^] Disable the results icons, it will reduce drastically the memory use > Disable icons on the results tab (will reduce memory usage) Export the list for CSV file > Export the list to CSV file Stop all running tasks > Stop searching [unless you want it as it is now.. as you wish] Kbytes > KiloBytes 4. Change the "Stop" icon on the second tab to X (not V). 5. When clicking "Search on the results (bla bla)" + not writing ANYTHING + clicking on somewhere else (where is not button), make the bar to appear with "Search on the results (bla bla)" again. 6. If windows is a 32 bit system, remove the "Program Files(x86)" entry. Thanks
