Yes, prior to formating and reinstalling win 7 I found this Lo.der with Benq Slic so I used it to actv. new install and made the rw report in hopes it might shed light on the odd table size. Too bad I don't know more about the actual mod process?
Thanks and understood. My thinking was the rw report would show a Benq Slic table and further I thought all Mfgrs. Slic tables were identical (believe I read that somewhere on this forum), i.e. Acer Slic tables would all be the same for 2.1 regardless of the model # of the computer. If Slic tables are indeed the same per Mfgr. would, then, a copy of Benq Slic table be of use to mod this 1.01 bios? I am currently searching for method (program) to enable me to extract (Benq) Slic table from an actual bios file. I get it that I might simply not understand this process well enough to generate appropriate ideas as how to resolve this, I just really want a good bios mod and, too, I hate to lose all invested time and energy thus far. If you think this cannot be resolved I will cease to bother you further about it. Thanks
Ok, i think i managed to make a mod for you but again i don't guarantee it will work. If you are willing to try let me know and i will upload it for you. But your system has to be clear of any lo.ders. Please don't blame me if you brick your computer.
Thanks, and I have been trying to learn more about this so I can feel I understand enough to make a good guess as to whether to try the moded bios or not. I believe you are telling me that the rw report from my unit showed a space allowance for Slic at 384 bytes but that all Slic tables are actually only 374 in size. Can I ask you how you handled the extra 10 bytes in writing the moded bios? I tried to read the clean rw report but when I clik the file to open with rweverything..., it always opens with current reading of host unit, not the file I am trying to read. Also, I am wondering about 'recovery' for this unit, wondering if it is possible to 'test' recovery function? I really appreciate you creating the file, I might try it after I do more research. If you want to post it I will get it and if I ultimately install it I will for sure let you know with details of result. If you want to wait until I decide IF I am going to install it, that's fine too. In any event, I know it is not your responsibility if I choose to install the new bios. I will give you more details, not sure if they mean anything to you. This unit came with Linux, the Product Joybook U102 originally was for XP and the ver 1.01 bios I provided was supposed to be for the U102 with XP. This unit shows ver 1.01 bios as well. I have seen on the web U102 units supposedly with Vista (Slic 2.0 ???). Have not acquired a bios for a Vista unit, ...yet.
Hi, please upload your RW report - don't post it. Actually, if you already have slic 2.1 then what do you need a new mod for? The result is going to be the same. There must be something wrong with the activation steps you are doing - not your bios.
I am using the BIE Dell Windows 7 Ultimate x64 OEM disc. In the past it always activates itself, but doesnt seem to do it now. Do I need to use the RTM ISO and SLP key?
I see. Well, I don't know what kind of activation is used in your DVD but in any case (and especially using "bois mod" for the purpose of Windows activation) I always recommend to use an authentic copy of Windows installation ISO. Even if you trust the source, after the download is complete, always check various hash checksums - CRC, MD5, SHA-1 of the downloaded ISO image as a mistake might always occur. So get a new and fresh copy of Windows 7 x64 and in the meantime i will make and upload that modded bios for you.
Hi str8 Thank you very much for your help with this. I didn't, however, need to do anything with the BIOS as like you say, it already had SLIC 2.1 on it. Foolishly, I didn't realise I needed to do anything other than have a BIOS with SLIC 2.1 in it, and was using an install disc that was automatically installing a Dell certificate and product key, so I had been missing out installing the certificate and this Dell certificate and product key are obviously no good for an Acer. I did a bit of investigation and have now figured this out, installed the certificate and updated with the correct SLP key and it's now activated and all working. Sorry to have wasted your time! Steve p.s. Couldn't figure out how to upload a file to the forum, hence why I didn't. The upload interface didn't seem to want to play!
