Need to change Product ID on refurb HP dv6-6135dx

Purchased a refurb HP dv6-6135dx from NewEgg. Have had troubles with it since day one. On the second repair by HP, they fixed two of the problems by replacing the system board. Unfortunately, the other two problems deal with HP Recovery Media, the F11 Recovery Partition and the two sets of recovery DVDs I made on the system - none of these will successfully restore on the laptop as HP changes the Product ID on refurb models by appending an 'R' to it. The Product ID for a non-refurb 6135dx is LW262UA, for a refurb unit it's LW262UAR. HP now wants to replace the laptop with another refurb one, but I don't trust them providing me with a similiar (or better) model.

I know that the BIOS on the dv6 models cannot be unlocked, but is it possible to change the Product ID setting in the EEPROM to match a non-refurb unit using the HP DMI Tools utility? The BIOS version on it is F.21.

    Thanks,

    Chip

Hi, thanks very much for your help. Bios flashed no problem and the Windows is activated. I was a litlle bit scared to flash it from Windows, but there was no problem at all. Thanks again.

No luck. After creating the USB key and booting off it, when I ran dmifit, I recieved the message "The utility cannot run on this machine."
