I posted a request in Forum > Computing Life > BIOS Mods > BIOS Mod Requests. Post Requests Only > Insyde bios mod requests, but was told I'd have to go a different route since the BIOS is Intel Insyde and the motherboard is a disguised Intel board of some sort (the Intel Integrator Assistant utility can actually run on the system). So I'm kind of stuck at what I can do at this point since I'm pretty sure such a modification can be done. I'm just not sure where to make the request and who can help. Thanks again.
I get this response: INT 15h EF01h failed to return EFI Variable Size -- FAILURE AH = 8Eh - NOT_FOUND This tool is not authorized to update this BIOS. Is there anything else for me to try?
My Notebook is Toshiba Tecra M5 and I check with SLIc Toolkit3.2 shows as Intel BIOS/ACPI 1.0, Vendor : Toshiba; Version 3.70. Does this mean it is an Intel BIOS? Are there any chances to mod with slic2.1 and insert certs? I am a student and only know how to flash bios. Can anyone help me? Is it different from AMI or AWARD BIOS? Thanks
When trying to run InsydeH20 I get this error: IHSI: get support mode fail in SMI Bios did not support InsydeFlash The only way I have been able to get it to flash was with iFlash. It is just a system that I am playing with so I even bricked it on purpose then used the recovery method hopping it would let me restore the Intel bios but to no avail. The only way I could recover it was using the Gateway AG0816P.bio file on a floppy. I have also went so far as to add the missing jumper blocks onto the motherboard J8H1 and J8J3 one being the CMOS Clear and the other is the BIOS WP. The board uses a SST49LF004B Bios Chip and the datasheet on it says that pin 7 & 8 are the TBL# and WP# which is Table Lock and Write Protect and that pulled low they are lock and when high they are unlocked. After playing with the board and probing it with the a meter I found that they are both pulled high by default and that J8H1 pulls them low when used. I was able to mod the gateway bios using module method but now cant get it to flash because the versions is the same and I can not force with iFlash. I plan to try and change the version numbers in the modded bios to see if I can get it to work that way and if not then I will brick it again and try to recover from the modded bios. For some reason it will not recover if it is not bricked... I have now spent well over 120 hours on this one and have yet to crack it. VidPro.
in recovery mode it does not metter which version is flashed. you can try to make a dump and mod it (be sure to save original dump untuched for recovery if something) unsolder bios flash chip and flash it on a programmer.
As to recovery mode, it will not flash the intel version. I tried repeatedly but the Header was still in tact so it did a version check. I tried with 7 different versions of the intel bios and none of them would flash. First time I tried the AG0816P gateway version it recovered. I don't have a programmer for the SST49LF004B but may have to jump on ebay and grab one.
recovery mode do not check version. but check if the bios has a valid digital signatue and if it fits to current MB
