I honestly can't say how that would work...
As 1 I'm not the developer lol...
I think however that when you rebooted the Virtual copy of 7 that you would do the same thing as per the instructions...
But this is an unknown for me since I still haven't gotten around to the list of hacks I need to try...

Just use it as it would be a normal Windows 7 install in non-virtual enviroment.
It will only affect the VHD and nothing else! What you do in a virtual enviroment stays there.

Since Boot manager and BCD resides on the XP Partition will IR4 be able to start recovery environment of the selected VHD windows 7 properly.

Yes it would because your virtual Windows 7 VHD won't effect the physical HD / XP Partion at all
You could do anything with it and you still would't break anything in the XP Partion.

So in theory you could unload an virus in to the virtual enviroment without having to worry about damages to the main / physical partion at all.

timesurfer, I found a serious bug, I run the program under Win XP and click on "IR4 Status". Then it shows "Only supported in Windows 7/Server 2008 R2" then suddenly restart the PC...... o_O

IR4 isn't meant to be used for Windows XP, it's not supported unfortunately so there isn't any bug here as I can see.

Well, I'm just try to ensure that the program run as perfect as it can be, so I run it under XP to check it incompatibility feature, which led me to a sudden restart...

And about the post timesurfer quoted, I run the tool under XP as the russian activator runs perfectly under XP and many people till use Office 2010 along with Win XP....

    Hope u will understand....

I know just had to make fun a little that's all...lol

If need be I'm sure it's easy to put another line of code to avoid non-OS use or restarts

Otherwise thanks for the "Extreme" "non-OS" testing

Not sure I remember but did you test this yet on an actual windows 7/R2 build yet? Appreciate any feedback if you did. VM is fine ;)

Finally I tested it on the above configuration. After clicking "OK" to install IR4, (Version 2.8 and Version 3.0 tested) system reboots and boots normally into Windows 7 again (No recovery option is shown). In Windows 7 the activation status remains the same (Status as before using IR4). So I assume it wont work with Windows 7 installed in VHDs.

It works fine on both Master and my virtual machines. He uses vm and I use vb. Perfect results ;)

Everyone should upgrade to 3.1 asap...

I am not testing on Virtual Machine. I am testing on real machine. I don't get a recovery option after reboot. Instead I get the Boot Selection Menu to select the Boot OS (XP, Win7 (VHD)). There is an option to select F8 for advanced options for Win7 but it contains options like booting into safe mode, there is no recovery options here as well.

    That sucks

Guess you can't use it with that configuration then

Try ODIN or the new KMS

I don't know anything about VHD (virtual hard drive?). Could someone explain further? If files get corrupted, what are the options available to do a repair or how do you access the recovery console?

I believe you can use Win7 Install DVD. You may need to select and attach VHD before selecting Repair option. I haven't tested it though.
