in fact i was thinking about going back to windows 7 like most people will if M$ won't give us the option to turn off metro when rtm comes.
And what about business? Surely nobody sane would give end users Metro? That would be a nightmare to deal with... sebus
Windows 8 Pro is installed onto one of the tablets so that can use classic applications, thus the need for a touchpad and keyboard. It's designed to be a little more than just a tablet, although you can use it as just another tablet if you want. The authors that criticize MS Surface, from what I can see, are often very biased. Personally I'd wait until the product is actually released to compare anything
This might be a good point, Daz - IF m$ listens and learns. However, all the signs are they won't. In keeping with their character, as a corp... From a methodical point of view speaking: we are all biased. No exceptions! One way or the other, there is no such thing as an "absolute" ('objectivity') in all things human... We all have to do the "measuring" and "balancing", i.e. "judging" all the time and whichever "opinion" one takes - it's somebody's opinion at the end of the day and that person has to make his/her mind up, according to one's needs/wants/capabilities/leanings/education/upbringing/school of thought one belongs to/books one has read/languages one speaks/experiences one has had/etc./etc.
As with the windows gadget platform, which can be turned off in add/remove windows features, all i am asking for, from MS is power over my own user interface. i need just a flippin on/off switch, on my windows 8 metro, and the traditional start menu button. no pain in adding those switches is there?. but on a good note...i love the picture login
To me Win8 has it good points and bad points I am really starting to like metro everyday But as a themer it is going to sux i think
Ubuntu is more familiar than Windows 8 for me. If MS doesnt give in and give a "windows classic (now win7 like)" option, nobody will want 8 or very few. Which is fine by me as I'll get paid to "upgrade" new computer from 8 to 7 or XP. We here on this forum are going to make a fortune on this; fixing the windows 8 problem If 8 continues to offer only metro and no aero or a hyothetical aero plus, I'm absolutely sure W8 will be looked at as a problem by 95% of Windows end users. The average windows user doesn't even know what the registry is or how to open a command prompt. How are THEY going to react to Metro? And how about the default sound scheme, anybody else tired of listening to Vista? Best Wishes
if microsoft developed windows 8 only for touch devices, they would have needed to develop one more os for desktops and laptops successor to windows 7. so they would have needed to work on 2 os at same time. they took clever decision. they developed windows 8 mainly for touch devices but also put support for desktops and laptops. thats why its best for touch devices but not good for desktops and laptops but microsoft is trying its best to show users that its also good for desktops. if microsoft would have promoted windows 8 only for touch devices, its was not going to get so much attention as its getting now.
What would be the advantage of having the Server 2012 installed, please? Atm, I simply give sharing 'characteristics' [permissions] to some folders and away it goes... But I suspect it is not the same thing at all... And if I want XBMC with the server part, this would be "it"i, I suppose (I had serious problems, sometimes, installing the My- and MS SQL etc.)? And what would the downsides be? Protecting it? Would a HW firewall + KIS or Comodo Suite do?
