"Reset" and "Refresh" Windows 8 restore methods will uninstall the desktop applications (preserve only apps) Metro apps:
I used to like it when it was first shown. But when WDP was shown it looked awful, ugly or whatever. They're making it worser and the start ICON is gone from WDP. What the heck, can anyone confirm if we can access our programs list? I don't care about metro anymore. Just after the speed!
No Microsoft killed the desktop PC with their insistence on sticking this stupid Win 8 UI in your face. You take away the lousy UI and all you have is Win 7 R2, which isn't too bad but not worth the full price of admission. :crystal:
And what would YOU prefer as an *optional* UI? And that's the real problem, isn't it? Microsoft, being a business, has to keep earning money (a business doesn't survive without revenue), all the while under assault from directions far removed from the PC experience it still dominates by a wide margin. Tablets. Smartphones. Other non-computer devices. It needs a UI for those used to UIs as far removed from Windows as it gets, but without breaking application compatibility with the existing applications/games/etc. on Windows today. That's Microsoft's dilemma. However, the majority of the Metro/Immersive haters don't see that - either they are somewhat obtuse or they are deliberately and willingly obtuse. They are so "my way or else" that they aren't willing to even give Metro/Immersive a fair shake.
I already got used to it and I love it. I could never get back on 7 and by the way, for those you don't like Windows 8 (for example jayblok) and asked for leaks in the past... well I feel sorry for you ) because you ask for leaks but don't appreciate the hard work Microsoft put into this. One thing is sure, they will not give up the Start Panel and the Metro apps so your complains are pretty much useless they will probably make an option in the future to disable it more easily but that will just kill the OS. It will mostly like Windows 7 then, with a few more upgrades... The Beta will be released next month, try it, and if you like it get used to it because Windows 8 is awesome in it's own way! For me it is. I agree with what R29k said "You take away the lousy UI and all you have is Win 7 R2, which isn't too bad but not worth the full price of admission."
You are forgetting that the customer is ALWAYS right. Sticking a UI down peoples throat is not an innovation it's call stupidity especially when the UI is crap. Microsoft are lazy and stupid, lazy in that they don't want to do a separate tablet OS and stupid since they are pushing their loyal customers away.
Watch all this stupid whining all switch over to Windows 8 when it's finally release. They still haven't learn from XP, Vista ect..
Totally agree with you R29k, MS should make 2 seperate versions:- 1) Tablet version = This version has everything in it, metro ui, ribbon ui, etc all designed for touchscreen devices. 2) Regular version = This version has only the ribbon and other enhancements that win8 brings, no metro start screen, but instead a new start menu that improves on the win7 version. Though i will download and see what the beta is like, when it's released late feb. Of course i'll make my final decision about upgrading when win8 is released, but until then i'll reserve judgement.
Whats the point of catering for your mobile business which is a flop and will remain so for a looong time as long as Android is around and screw up your vibrant desktop business all in the name of unification ?
Its the usual negative comments when a new product comes, its proven tht the metro start screen is easier than win 7 start menu (If u use it properly) and u can customize it.. according to me its a good move from microsoft, And i hope everyone will like it In otherhand hand, windows 7 is going to stay long like xp did(doing)
I don't really think you can 'prove' that the Screen is better/easier than the Menu. I think that's all really personal choice. I know MS did a whole post about why it's better, but I'm still skeptical. Ofc I'm waiting for beta, and even final release before I judge it I think the biggest problem is that nasty green color that we're stuck with in WDP. I think when we can change the color, it'll look a lot nicer
Honestly, the first time used it I hated it and used a registry tweak to get back the old windows 7 look. Other then that, It is okay. But what Microsoft needs to have is a way to select which interface a person wants, the older one or newer one. Or just have the Installation process detect whether or not its being installed on a PC or Tablet and auto set the interface to suit it.
I couldn't even figure out how to change my username display avatar for god's sake! That's how fugly it is
I changed my picture avatar easy:click on it from immersive control panel and choose another that was in my documents...(..that will change it on your windows Live account.....if u will need toreinstallWDP you will see...)
