I use Windows 8 since the Developer Preview... i personally think it's just a matter of getting used to it. It's just my opinion, BTW.

Well at 1st I didnt like it. Its different but its not going to be a huge hit I think on PC's. Metro for tabs seem really nice. But after playing with the RTM I am going to buy it. Its just to cheap not to.
Now if ...and I PRAY someone would make shadows for the windows.. just love shadows lol

Thanks OP for this site and all the people that post things to help.. you really helped me. Thanks guys..

PS: Its just text we need to relax :)

Chance it'd be a version we'll remember like one of the best, I think no.
A big company like MS should known better than developing something like this when dealing with both tablets and Pcs. Dont know what it looks like, I smell FUD and joke all the way.

But congrats anyway, they succeeded in convince almost half of population in move forward to begin using Windows 7. Thats been an important issue for a long time in get it out on the market and make people buying it. Now when they became scared of Windows 8 it not that hard taking that step :jumpon::giggle:

I don't like it and uninstalled after a few days of using it heavily. Windows 7 is much better, easier to navigate, and does the job fine.

I specifically don't like how there are essentially two groups of apps on your system now : Metro friendly, and those you have to run on the desktop. This app segregation kinda sucks and leads to confusing as to what's running where (e.g. having two separate Chrome windows open). The UI itself seems pretty nifty for a tablet, but not for a desktop PC. If Win8 somehow transformed my 26" Samsung monitor in to a touch panel, it'd be great. Still, it's really nothing more than a fancy shell replacement with support for apps specifically designed for it.

Full screen gaming wasn't as smooth as it was on Win7 and if I had a video or something playing on my 2nd monitor (32" HDTV) the video would just pause/lag out. On win7, this is a non-issue and the videos run fine. I tend to watch videos while playing some PC games so this is kind of a dealbreaker for me. My hardware isn't s**tty or old, either. I'm on an i5-2500k @ 4.2ghz, 560ti 448 core, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD / 1 TB WD Caviar Black so it's not like it was a system resource problem.

I think if a way is found to run Win7 explorer on top of a Win8 base, it'd be fine. As of now, Metro (or whatever they're calling it) seems like an answer to a question that nobody asked. Drivers still need to mature a bit and some have yet to be created (Asus Xonar DG has no driver support) as well so I think I'll wait until the end of the year to hop on board if I ever decide to.

No, that's not what he's saying at all. He is saying that Windows RT will not be available separately. Just like iOS on Apple devices, or the firmware in your Blu-Ray player, it comes with the device and you get updates from the device manufacturer. You can't buy WinRT by itself in a box.

    i agree with that...

people are accustomed to the look and user experience that has left remnants from the time of windows 95 and later. They dont want use something new, they even dont try to use the new windows version for a while. They are stuck in the look and feeling of windows 95/xp style.. Everything new for them is... from the satan itself. Im wondering if that peoples, was trying to use for example gnome or kde or even another exotic window manager from the Linux world, what will be saying then. ----> "Oh i cant use this crap, i want back my start menu, oh.... it looks rubish, ohhh i cannot use it because looks so unfamiliar, oh my fingernail has broken, oh im tired to clicking differently to the tiles, etc etc"

Peoples using something which are familiar to them. When you move them to something new, they rebel and curse everything and everybody....

windows8 is fine for all geeks and people who have too much time.

the only serious person to get win8 is one who has an asus w500 or other touch-pc already.
win8 will make sense once tablets for it come out with touch.
tho i dont need this s**t because its just retarded and for people who have no girlfriend or money to spend on good things in life. yes i am a troll but win8 still sucks because NOBODY IN THE WORLD NEEDS TWO DESKTOPS and these s**tty apps dont even work on most netbooks

The new start screen isn't all that bad. It's much easier to see all your programs across the entire screen instead of looking down to the bottom left corner of your screen. It doesn't even take as much effort to use (Start > Right-click > All apps instead of Start > All programs). You can still acess your libraries (Documents, Pictures, Music, Video, etc.) from the start screen, but you just have to pin them onto the start screen. Instant search is still available as well, just start typing away. All in all, it's the same as the classic old start menu.

There are people who still feel Windows XP is the superior OS. Of course, the same people still refuse to upgrade their 386 with 14.4 dial-up modem.Windows 8 is the future, get out of your basement and upgrade.

honestly i thought it was the worse OS in the past 10 years till I got bored one day and started to get the feel of it. MAN is it fast and quickly responsive! the "start" page is a joke i never use it. but once you guys get the feel of it im sure you will like it. hell im still learning it but i like SPEED and quick response and that is what you get IF you configure it correct (like stopping services and such that is not needed)

    Jesus Christ!
Just finished testing new RTM version and all I can say about it is = Microsoft, you won't get my money this year.
I would go for Win8, but the applied theme is terrible! Colors like from MS Paint, it takes long to move mouse pointer to move it to another side. This looks like iOS or Android for mobile phones.
They say it works much better than Win7? Yea right, when u use slow HDD, I have Intel 330 120 GB under SATAIII and it works smoothly under Win7 and no need to buy new Win, which brings nothing for PC users.

BTW: Almost 2 years ago, MS informed us that Win8 is going to be the best OS for games. I can't find any advantages in the new OS for gamers. Perhaps I'm blind?

Agree, XP has been a great sharp os to use, easy and simple.
Actually I am using it myself right now. Familiar with Windows 7 as well but can't use it as good mainly from reason of my installed graphic card but using it anyway from time to time.

In question of Windows 8 I have to say it's important for MS to really do something in next version, especially for all those included in the userbase of workstations and Pc's. This for not risk too much of their own reputation in the eyes of the market out there in the future.

They will never have afford in continue like this so I cling to my hope on a new version.
I don't doubt they impressed with win8 in many young peoples eyes or people who watching the world from a "my point of view frame" but how does it looks like if we force people to use this in a bigger picture e.g every place where we until recently been used working with traditional computing.

I'm sure it'll be a new hit for all those who love playing with their phones and similar products but it would be a bit too big step to take for the rest of the world if we didn't had other alt. XP and Windows 7 in the game.

Beyond that, it's been horrifying to watch the new game face from Microsoft where it seems free to changing rules and trick people forward, thought they should knew after so many years in acting more professional. Terrible

Will Win8 be the New Vista? We shall see whether this pans out or not. Hopefully by the time Win8 hits the store shelves that drivers are written with Win8 in mind which should improve the experience. I for one wonder if Win8 will ever run on my trusty old IBM ThinkPad T42 with 2GB RAM and 80GB HDD...

XP has been a solid OS for the past 3-4 years and old habits die hard

So far, performance wise I see quite a difference. Everything just runs exceedingly well.

I have yet to see someone complain about something other than metro.

Actually, I don't like wallpapers they have included :)

IMO, Microsoft lost too many users this time. Their mobile market is too small, I don't think anyone will be interested in buying mobile phone with Windows 8 in the nearest future. After some time they have to release another version of Windows. Windows 8 would be a great idea for mobile, if the target market was much bigger - they can't compare with iOS or Android phones. Even if they sell more devices, it will be too late for Win8.

They should make new path for Windows future - 2 version of Windows. One, which should be like XP/7. Released once and updated only with some bigger Upgrade Packs every 1/2 years, not changing appearance drastically, but mainly focusing on using latest technology - TRIMM function, native USB3.0, EFI, etc. If they want to "test" the future, they can release another version under some other name, but with totally new appearance with lots of cool stuff, etc. - that's just my opinion guys.

It looks like they gave up on PC users, they focus now on mobile devices and they can't skip next version of Windows not becoming released also for PCs - that's why they made it more usable for mouse users :)

Most people like beautiful stuff, new Windows 8 looks horrible, even the logo comes from Win 3.1. It just looks cheap.

BTW: Windows is already easy-to-use OS, they should only focus on bringing new stuff and making OS much more reliable.
