Is it possible to mod a Dell Inspirion 8600 (or any other dell laptop) BIOS, so that it doesn't power down the CPU and stop charging the battery, whenever a non-dell AC adapter is pluged in?
I don't know why you want to, HP and Dell chargers that have that extra pin in the power adapter do so to prevent overcharging the battery (it is worth more than the charger), the are easily available on ebay cheap, also many models chargers are interchangeable, it really doesn't look for the manufacturer, it looks for overcharge protection which is available with that center pin... just confirm the size of the power adapter connector and the voltage and order from ebay cheap. I have never had trouble with that yet.. I use my Hp adapters on my Dell and vice versa without issue
