microsoft seems to have also killed off already generated links for microsoft self-service activation or maybe they shut their own interact.io servers down.

Yeah I think they deliberately blacklisted this key since it was spread everywhere. So genuine validation would fail upon encountering this key.

What error do you see? Maybe it is just temporarily down again.

it says the requested page could not be found.
yeah, microsoft definitely took it down.
it stayed down for a while.
i dont think its temporary when its been down for hours.
i mean i think you can still use their self-service activation website but i think they took down all already generated links they found out in the wild.

this is off topic but i've noticed that xp home edition is incredibly buggy to use compared to professional edition for some reason.

heres 1 example of it acting stubborn.

Are you trying to install Windows Update Agent 7.6? I've think I experienced the same error myself. What I did eventually was to use 7-Zip to extract the EXE, then I extracted "downlevel" EXE too. Finally, I ran "wusetup.exe" within this second EXE.

EDIT: This issue occurs only on Windows XP Home Edition, not on Professional or MCE 2005.

yeah, i was but i already fixed it.
and i did the same exact steps as you did in one of the posts in another thread called "restore windows update for windows xp".
    but its not only that.
windows xp home edition seems to also get kinda broken during installation.
i think i once put a product key generated by xpkey.exe and after that, as i went into the 3rd setup phase.
it skipped oobe after the resizing of the display part and it forced me to the activation screen telling me i need to activate windows now with no theme applied and as if winlogon.exe wasnt running at all.
not just that, the activation screen refused to even load up, it was just a box.
and then even if i didnt put the product key sometimes, it even skipped oobe anyways so i did a reinstall 3 times in a row.

That was one reason why I eventually just stuck with XP Professional - it has more features anyway (e.g. Remote Desktop) and less trouble setting it up. But your issue might be with the machine you are running it on - is it a VM or physical machine? Drivers/the setup CD you're using might play a role in this.

could be, i had the vm set to windows xp professional.
i dont think it makes a difference with either drivers or the vm options.
and no, i was using an untouched msdn windows xp home edition sp3 (en_windows_xp_home_with_service_pack_3_x86_cd_x14-92413.iso)
from here and i verified it and it was genuine.
i think it was acting up because i perhaps set two cores and it prob doesnt like it.
i also noticed that windows genuine notification doesnt even come up or appear when you have windows xp home edition.

If you're using VirtualBox then yeah drivers should not be an issue (but note VirtualBox 6.1.x removes 2D acceleration for the VBoxVGA video adapter used by XP). It might depend on the two core setting and what processor your host machine is using.

no, im actually using vmware and i have an i5 4460 with no hyperthreading.
i always set the vms compatibility to vmware workstation 12 to avoid any issues with the old drivers since they havent been updated since i think late 2016.

I don't recall getting WGA (KB905474) on XP Home through Automatic Updates either in the last few years. Only on Professional.

Mine loads, but just very slowly. I have updated to the latest IE 8 + Cumulative Update available (for POSReady 2009 in March/April 2019), enabled TLS 1.1/1.2 and updated root certificates, but still the same.
