Alexxf is correct, you don't need the bridge. I run without it.

If you're on a VPN, your local network will normally not be visible. If you want the KMS server visible outside your local network, you can port forward 1688 from your router to the KMS server. This will open it to the world, so make sure that's what you want.

I don't want to open it to the world. I want to open it to my friends who are in my VPN. It was possible previously using KMS micro of windows 8. I think this was possible since we were able to set loopback ip for kms micro VM for windows 8. But what had to be done in this KMS micro to make the same thing possible

This method will help only to activate system in local network. But what I need to know is how to make it work on a VPN like comodo unite

    I just edited my post.

    OTHER LOCATION
    -----------------
Use the port forward function in your router that is connected to your internet provider.
Forward port 1688 to the IP-number of the PC where KMS 5.0 is running.
Start KMS 5.0 with the code for network use.
After that your external IP-nr can be used.

Hi all, I've been watching this thread closely and have some specific questions that I'd like to have precise and clear answers as somehow no one seems to be using/discussing this scenario:

Can I run KMSpico in an XP VM ? this is to keep a minimal lean VM for activation purposes. (ofcourse the dependencies .net will be needed)
if not on XP, what minimum version of OS you suggest, I only need to activate win8.1 machines, no Win8/Win7

QEMU is an OS Simulator right ? can i boot the image straight in Virtual box ?

My VM will be available on local LAN, and it is evident from some posts that its working locally. Do I still need the TAP driver for Locally accessible machine?

    Regards...

    1. KMSpico just redirects the clients to some real KMS servers which are available via internet. So no need to run it in a VM.

    2. QEMU is a free and open-source hosted hypervisor. The hdd can be converted to VDI but you need to do some other adjustments to make it activated under VirtualBox.

The QEMU image provided with KMS Micro is a VM, but can't be booted by VirtualBox. You can run it within a Win7 VM in VirtualBox (one VM inside another) and it works. That's how I do it, because I generally run anything I think is suspicious in a VM. You do not need the TAP driver, just set KMS Micro settings to Net 127.0.0.2:1688. Then you can activate on your LAN by pointing to the VirtualBox Win7 VM.

You mentioned KMSpico which is a different thing and not relevant to the above.

OK, I tried your stripped down version with this commandline (5.0.0 files), but Qemu doesn't start. It briefly pops up in taskmanager, but disappears after a few secs.
    I can't figure out what's going on. I tried a "bare" version:
    start qemu.exe -m 512 -hda kmsmicro.rom -name KMS_IP-forward -L .
and this one does start, so one of the other options must be the cause of some problem that causes Qemu to just quit without any error message.
Does anybody know what might be the cause of this? Thanks!
