ok guys. I have finally used this app on my main rig. Which was originally a RTM install then SP1 was put on top of it when released. So it had a lot of hotfixes not installed. I do plan to reinstall Win7 at some point with patches integrated but just no time for all that atm. So I ran KUC (many times). The first run removed many many updates I think 200 or so, also there was many errors I had to do lots of reboots until there was no more updates to remove. Eventually it did run with no updates to remove tho. Then I did the rest where installed new updates. After that I seen the new options in netsh int tcp show global and clearly my system had more hotfixes installed. Although they dont show in update history. Now the weird parts. 1 - After this windows update showed more updates than before I ran it. 2 - KUC still showed well over 1500 packages missing. So I ran it again with different options, this time the LDR options and limit to 75 ticked. It removed another 100 or so packages and installed 73. This didnt seem to work well, s I abandoned the limit to 75 thing. Now windows updates shows 90 available updates . Ran the same again but with satisfy wu ticked and without the limit to 75. Originally didnt use satisfy wu because I didnt want this to install nvidia graphics which gets listed under windows update as critical update. Now windows updat lists 6 or so packages and the only critical ones are what I had before, silverlight and IE10. There is 2 extra in reccomended that are from 2012 from kernel framework updates. Strangely tho KUC still shows 1500 as missing, can I ignore those? as KUC seems to ignore them as it now says only 3 packages to add when I run it, but 1500 missing.
I just made my very first working win7sp1x64 DVD using KUC. I had also selected ie10, and I did see those package names go by, when the CMD window was doing update.cmd, but when i install the new DVD in a VM, it is still ie8 and not ie10 that is there. It looks like all the the other updates integrated OK, because when I run Windows Update the first time from my new installed VM, there are only a dozen updates from the last 2 or 3 weeks, and not 250+ updates since SP1 time frame. So I think I know how to use KUC in the general way now. Can someone help me understand how to get ie10 integrated as well? Thanks, Neal
IE10 and Win7 It can be done with the following steps. 1. Put the PreRequisites in a folder (e.g IE10\Pre) [KB2726535, KB2670838, KB2729094-v2, KB2786081] 2. Put the latest IE10 (e.g. 10.0.8) cab in a folder (e.g. IE10\Main) [IE10-Windows6.1-KB2718695-xnn.cab] where nn=64 or 86 3. Put all the post IE10 (with reference to Step 2) updates in a folder (e.g IE10\Upd) [IE-Hyphenation-NEU.MSU + IE-Spelling-NEU.MSU + post-updates(if any)] 4. Create a log folder (e.g IE10\Logs) 5. Removes any IE10 debris in "Normal" folder Then run the following in a cmd script. where the following variables have been set %tmpdir% = path of mounted Win7SP1 install.wim %Win7% = Prepath of IE10 <with credits to those contributed in mentioned previous post (aka the 2 referenced sections)> Hope this helps ...
Do I need to modify the update.cmd, assuming I didn't check the options in KUC to install IE10? and what If I did check to options to install IE10? P.S. I'm trying to update an offline image aka DVD Image....
IE10 and Win7 No need to modify update.cmd at all. If you do not check the IE10 options, just get the required files and integrate them ... before update.cmd. To be safe, just double-check that the required files are not in "Normal" folder. If you check the IE10 options, this is the tough part. Due to its complexity, maybe it is easier not to check KUC IE10 options at the moment. But integrate IE10 separately, as mentioned in previous post. Hopefully, Komms will make it easier to update IE10 in Win7SP1 in his next KUC update ...
Say Komm, your IE10 prerequisite list and M$'s have always differed for obvious reasons-no problem, but, it is hard to keep up with your prerequisite list. Of course KB2670838 and updates would be in there I'm supposing, but, would it be possible to see this prerequisite list in your repo-just to see it for enumeration purposes. So many hotfixes are superseded and not necessarily confined to just those that were either in the prerequisites or KB2670838 updates. Some of the latest hotfixes supersede quite a few not in either, so, it is difficult to know whether to place these updates in the KB2670838 update folder or in the main folder-not requiring KB2670838 to be installed-as an example. Thanks.
Dear Komm , has Komm update the repo ??? i saw the repo have not update ... or any one know the new repo for windows 7 on KUC ?
Current IE10 prerequisite list: KB2670838 KB2859537 (supersede KB2639308) KB2790113 (supersede KB2533623) KB2768486 (supersede KB2731771) KB2756651, KB2779272 (supersede KB2729094) KB2786081 === There is only 1 update that require KB2670838: KB2836502 there is another update that can be installed with or without KB2670838: KB2834140-v2
For me, I do need that the KB2670838 for IE10 (KB and IE integrated to ISO) And hotfix KB2862772 and KB2871676
Thanks very much; just as an aside, KB2729094-v2 is installed by Komm in normal mode for August-probably WU satisfy; thanks again very much appreciated.
