I have done many clean installs, starting with XP, and many upgrades. Yes, I noticed that a clean installation runs better/faster until I install all the programs I had before. At that point I haven't noticed any difference in performance

up to you but win 11 25h2 and 26h1 work on old computers going back 2013 or prior :) clean install for 11 or 26h1 although 26h1 won't get upgrade to 26h2 which is just enablement from 25h2 at this point in fall or earlier otherwise server 2022 or 2025 work great also on older computers again clean install

Nothing ever happened using the version I'm running now until I tried to upgrade. This is an upgrade install itself and has never had a blue screen and I have many "miles" on this laptop. This version is not supported any longer so I had to find one that is.

This is my second SSD for this laptop and it's on the decline at less than 70% health with an estimated 229 days left.

I've slowed down my computer use. I used to be involved in graphics, photoshop and some video editing. I quit making Firefox themes many years ago.

Anyway, i'd like to thank those that have helped me solve the problem I had. I really appreciate it. Thank you!

I still have the problem of not being able to do an upgrade using any version it seems. I really dislike installing all the apps I had as it's so time consuming

I do have a backup program (EaseUS todo backup) but I haven't been keeping it updated so there is a backup that is years old.

If this laptop is working fine now, what could go wrong? - other than trying to do something drastic like upgrade. Just for kicks I did change the version to IoT 10 enterprise - which I think is just a labeling change. It's still 22H2.

Did I miss the reason why I'm not allowed to save my programs and apps while upgrading? In the past week i've been going through a few issues that were annoying but a little fun to solve. There were places that i've never been before, like diskpart, and I learned some things. I am a bit shocked that i'm posting this on the laptop that wouldn't boot and was missing the boot partition.

Are the two issues I have a common occurrence as far as the upgrade route goes? There has been no solution or recent discovery associated with these errors?

The reason would be total conjecture as we're talking about a black-box mess -- my best guess is because the in-place upgrade failed, in an attempt to protect critical system files read/write was blocked... There are too many points of failure tough with in-place upgrades to count.

In-place upgrades fail quite often. The underlying reasons are mysterious. Likely file ownerships and permissions becoming hopelessly scrambled after repeated previous upgrades, reinstalls, or cloning and restoring operations. It's just something worth trying before resorting to a completely clean reinstall.

Yes, 3 is tsforge. Whether activating ESU will restore updates is hard to guess, and might take a couple of days or reboots to test.

You have quite a mess there. If you had a legit Win 10 IoTEnterprise LTSC, it would automatically be receiving updates to 2032, and would report version 21H2 with a build number of 19044.xxxx. Continuing with this mess is probably a waste of time.

either rufus or flyoobe ( as well as certain tools on this site ) to force windows upgrades as I have tested on win 10 to 11 but more of a clean win 10 then to 11; multiple upgrades over time and third party software, drivers, firmware and microsoft changes in boot partitions and multiple ones at that, on top of existing hardware recovery partitions complicate matters

Does anyone know if I can safely delete the one (highlighted) partition that, I think, was the former EFI? Is it ok that the new EFI located at the end of disk one?

At least this mess seems to be running without issue that I can see.
