I would guess the last 100 pages of this thread have been devoted to the next build, whatever and whenever it may come. That tells us how long it's been and how antsy people get when RTM is just around the corner.
I managed to prevent the WDDM 2.0 Engineering sample from installing over the 15.5 Beta drivers from AMD been running it for a couple hours now without it installing...
First off you want to uninstall the WDDM 2.0 driver than clean it with DDU, reboot then install the 15.5 Beta drivers, reboot. as soon as you login...(before windows updates the video driver). Rightclick start menu > Run > gpedit.msc > Administrative tools (Under Computer Config) > System > device installation > Device installation Restrictions. Now look for "Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy settings" and enable that. (After you install 8.1 driver and reboot.. basically locks the driver in place to prevent overwrite of existing drivers). [This might effect the updating drivers in the future, so change it back to not configured before you install another driver this oddly causes install manager to crash when installing the actual driver.] Usually within 20-60 mins depending will instantly install the 15.200.1023 driver biggest pain in the ass!! hope this helps AMD users as it has helped me. BTW: This setting goes into effect right away as its change to enabled so there is ideally no restart needed for it to go into effect.
Sure, the driver may be faster in the sense that it has new DirectX 12 optimization, but the driver crashes in a lot of games, even using internet browsers it will randomly crash... with the 8.1 driver i manage to keep my stability while enjoying smooth performance as well, and spartan (Edge) doesn't freak out on it. On Killing Floor 2 that driver crashes 3 times in one sitting on the map Vaulter Manor... Borderlands tPS artifacts hard when it crashes .... heard problems with BF4 and DirectX on this driver. When im on the 15.5 drivers even though beta they never crash on me EVER, so its a fair trade if im not mistaken too Hardware acceleration is a little bent in this driver as well.
