I don't think this will be the case for the Surface RT though, maybe MS implement their drivers directly into the Windows RT 8.1 ISO. More so, I reckon Windows Update will be able to grab something.
@ ms-7 do you know, when the core/pro in german comes?wzor is on twitter, but he write no leaks next.i hope tomorrow, i have oem key in bios for win8 core.thx
Have a go with this, would you? 1. Delete Windows_8.1_EN-US_x64.ISO\support folder. 2. Clear everything in Windows_8.1_EN-US_x64.ISO\sources but boot.wim, install.wim and setup.exe. 3. Add ei.cfg into Windows_8.1_EN-US_x64.ISO\sources\ 4. Save. 5. Make USB-boot (by UltraISO-Premium-Edition-9.5.3.2901 for example). ei.cfg: [EditionID] [Channel] RETAIL [VL] 0
Negative. Do not remove the sources\ files You need them for boot installs as well as upgrade. I don't know exactly which ones are required for boot installs, but I know that it's more than just boot.wim, install.wim and setup.exe support\ folder is safe to remove sources\sxs\ folder is ok to remove but not recommended as you won't have any way to add netfx3 or any other features until MS makes them available for download ei.cfg is ok, but when trying to upgrade will block key check. You can get around this by running sources\setup.exe
Most 4GB USBs have an actual storage capacity of somewhere around 3.7GB, Windows 8 stayed below that, Windows 8.1 is about that size, some 4GB USBs have just enough space to fit the 8.1 installer, some will fall just short of the required space. My drive had 20MB to spare after I put the ISO on it, you're less lucky, your USB thumb drive doesn't have enough space, you need to find another USB or find a safe way to slim down the iso so it can fit on your drive... I can't imagine Microsoft bloating OEM ISOs with drivers for their surface (on the other hand they're MS so you never know) And I'm not sure that Windows Update will download Windows 8/8.1 preview firmware drivers for 8.1 RTM. The 8.1 RTM drivers certainly won't be on WU yet, I'd be surprised if they're already finished.
I could understandand you well. But the problem is that he ain't got enough room for the USB stick. (BTW The modified ISO way has been used for years. And the original ISO can be kept, right?)
There's no scenario where he doesn't have enough room. He has to have at least a 4gb flash drive to fit ANY win8.1 rtm. Any 4gb flash drive will fit either the x86 or x64 version. He's doing something wrong, but the size isn't the problem.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Surely Microsoft would make it easier for their own device to get updated by including standard drivers within the ISO? In reality, we could even install the current Windows 8 / Windows 8.1 Preview drivers on the device and it would likely work with 8.1 RT RTM wouldnt it?
Let me reiterate, a 4GB flash drive NEVER has 4GB of usable space, it's somewhere around 3.7GB!! Some drives will have just enough usable space to put a x64 version of 8.1 on it, other won't! For example: I have 2 4GB flash drives, but only one of them is capable of holding and entire Windows 8.1 ISO, the other needs ~10MB more space in order to use it as a Windows 8.1 installer! It's entirely possible that his '4GB' flash drive can't fit 8.1 x64! He has to trim down the installer by, for example, removing the 'support' folder orhe has to find an 8GB drive or a 4GB one that does have enough space!
Any chance of a similarly quick and hard answer? Saw in one of these threads last night that WZOR were promising to release language packs tonight, has that happened yet? I would scour the threads but I haven't even a clue where I read it on here last night.
yeah downloaded win 8.1 pro and it wouldn't take my win 8 or Media Center codes update must have been something wrong with windows activation because it just worked ok this time so all is well
I think I saw someone doing it, here or on twitter, I forgot where and how he did it, or maybe my memory is just tricking me and he didn't manage to do it One thing is for sure it isn't supported, so even if you do find a way, it might be buggy.
if someone did, it went out of my knowledge. Afaik it was/is not possible as of MS mentioned officially though
It does NOT say you are running a non-core edition. It gives you instructions which, if you will follow them, will give you the real error message.
