    well that interests me, if I put a volume license key, then how did it activate over the internet the moment I put my built in key in the BIOS which I snatched using Belarc Advisor?

    It activated instantly the moment I entered a new product key bro

    Inserting key switches Windows to the license channel the key is intended for. And it is fast because computers are faster than you.

    yeah but I mean if I had accidentally used the VL Single Lang key, shouldn't have failed to activate in the first place because I didn't enter the regular Single Language key?

    No, why? The VL key used at install switched Windows into KMSCLIENT channel. But the moment you inserted your key it switched back into OEM:DM and forgot about Volume.

    so has anyone confirmed it is safe to just do a upgrade from a existing oem windows 8 core to this 8.1 by just re-activating online? If re-activating online doesn't work, do we phone in? I'm so tempted to upgrade my laptop to 8.1 but don't know the correct way to stay activated without the need to do a fresh install

    Thats exactly how I did mine. Use that key from the 1st page to install then activate with the key from your BIOS. Use Belarc Adviser to retrieve it if you need to.
