I still wont put it on a production system, it can stay in the virtual world while I watch it send randomness to the wild lol
using it as primary....lol.....I don't care......I think of it as a solid 8.1 with a few updates, nothing more, I don't expect it to perform any less than 8.1
After installing all of my usual programs and utilities, this version is peppier than 8 or 8.1. I intend to keep on using it as my primary OS unless something strange turns up as I use it.
After my install of this, I had 5 WU updates = 419.6 MB, even before I activated it too. I did have my internet turned off though when I installed it & switched it on after the install. Installed in VMware 9
It won't install for me. It tells me to "Restart my pc and turn off secure boot". Which is weird since 8.1 RTM did install a few months ago without having to disable it.
what 5? I am currently running WU for W7UltE so haven't looked at the WU for the leak? I am assuming Definitions, Flash, maybe others like that?
nope no flash, ie 11 is updated but is using older version of flash, not even sure if we will get the flash updates since supposedly this ie11 is more up to date than the other versions, the updates are definitions, and strangely, 8.1 reliability updates from November and December, I would have thought they would have been integrated in this build
I got KB2887595, Windows 8.1 update KB2899189, MS Camera Codec for 8.1 KB890930, MS Software removal Tool - January '14 KB2883200, Windows 8.1 update KB2267602, Windows Defender definition Update As Jeff said, IE using older flash, I tried to update, couldn't.
The updates showing in WU are superfluous, they will not update any components in the system apparently WU servers are wrongfully detecting this build as RTM
yup just stuff. I do imagine once it is released there will be several more right after install though.
interesting, might never get updates for a "leaked" build like this then....thoughts? plus if you go to winver and check out the confidential text there, I doubt you'll see any official updates for this os, lol
It's not as simple as flipping a switch and saying "Let there be updates on Windows Update!" They have to first catalog the official release file versions. They then have to make the official cab files used in each patch. They then have to copy and list each update on each server. When they've copied all files to all servers, then they make them available. This is a leak. For all we know, they could discover a huge problem and re-build it. You wouldn't spend all of the time updating the servers and building the cab files and such if you're just going to do it again every single build. Heck they even remove some files from Windows Update after they've tested them when some rare instances of bugs or unintended incompatibilities occur. I can remember a recent Windows Update that was removed because it was causing a BSOD in some older bank systems. If I had to guess, it was hardware related, and nothing they could have predicted, but I'm not the one debugging things, so I don't know. All that being said, some updates will probably show up and some won't. It all depends on how they built the thing and how they are detected as necessary to update.
Pre-release builds generally don't have the secureboot signatures, so it requires you to disable secure boot. I had to do this as well, not a big deal.
