I am able to activate using my own retail key, all goes well. 1. Secure Boot has to be off 2. Store will add itself to quick launch EVERY TIME Window reboot, very annoying 3. All drivers are working properly with this version, which should not be a surprise
Please - that's the New Yorker; is there evidence (from somewhere that didn't just carry his reportage under their own brand) that such even happened? There are those that condemn Windows 8.1 that have never (even in a virtual machine) even RUN it.
It seems like someone told some blogger half of the story and the blogger simply filled in the gaps. What hardware configuration was Gates using? What software configuration was he using? Special drivers etc? What OS build number was he using? Did he use a usb drive to install or a dvd? Is it possible that the install media had issues? There are a Lot of reasons that you can fail to upgrade a win8.1 from win7. Almost none of them have to do with the quality of Win8.1 itself.
Maybe now he's using a version of Windows that has over 500 post-sp1 updates/hotfixes, he may force through a SP2 for Win7 before extended support phase starts early next year, either that or extend mainstream support for another 2 years.

That's weird... I can't install .NET Framework 3.5 on my system. when running the DISM command with the /Online switch all I get is this error message: Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool Version: 6.3.9600.16596 Error: 50 DISM does not support servicing Windows PE with the /Online option. The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log I get this error even if just running "DISM /Online /?". Am I the only one getting this ?
