Same here. I hope they'll release an ISO for RTM, I'll do a clean install and I'll migrate to UEFI boot
I'm still on 7 Enterprise. Just installed 8 on work PC and maybe after 6 days I will install it on home PC as well. We all waiting for ISOs I think
I will install 8.1 on my machine. Got the custom refresh image anyway. Besides it's just facelifting so i wouldn't expect any major problems.
Upgrade an production Windows 8 Pro using the Windows 8.1 Preview Upgrade Who like to upgrade their legal Windows 8 Pro should think and consider to create an HDD Image of the C Drive prior to the upgrade. In that case, at the time the RTM/Final is available the user would just need to revert back using that C Drive Image and could do the "real" Upgrade. Only apps and data from the time of using the Preview Upgrade would be need to re-install if MS didn't allow to upgrade the Preview to the RTM/Final.
It's important that people know this before blindly installing the preview. I think this post should be a sticky (the one i'm replying to, not my reply lol)
I would never trust windows restore seen it fail so many times over the years, Users should really have a system backup you never know when hard drive could fail.
Yep true, I've made a custom refresh image for Win 8 Is it only Metro apps that are going to get wiped when we need to install 8.1 RTM from the preview or is it a full refresh which will wipe 3rd party programs ?
Answer is: NO! A Restore Point is used to re-instead windows to an point before it crashed and even that will fail many times. An full HDD Image would be the only 100% solution and also be used on an new /different HDD in case the old one fails or wouldn't be used for any reason. Also the "restore" to an bigger HDD would work. Personally I use HD-Clone which never failed for me over quite some years. But there other apps like Norton Ghost etc. as well which will do the job similar.
