I tried Windows 8.1 Build 9471 and I really didn't like it at all When I install any application it hangs a while, I don't know why. Anyway, I'm waiting for the RTM Edition in order to see if I'm going to use it or keep using Window 7.
You do know that Microsoft is going to kill off the x32 Windows architecture sooner than later right? x86 is gunna be going the way of the dinosaurs. Pretty much every PC manufactured past 2005 had an x86-64 CPU. There are many limitations 64 bit Windows overcomes where 32 bit Windows cant overcome such as accessing over 3.21 gb of Ram.
It will be a while another 4 years maybe even more. The fact is Microsoft want to sell the OS to as many people as possible allot of business customers are still rocking old hardware with less than 4GB ram making 64 bit sort of pointless. There are a fair few devices that are about with only 32bit support (i'm sure most and all will be phased out in a few years though). Microsoft do have a tendency to "help" business's and charities with money off new hardware and training (most likely willingly knowing they will buy a windows update or 2 in the future for all that hardware.) I have 1 PC (well notebook) still on 32bit all other machines (4 laptops, 2 PC) are on 64bit Windows 8/Windows 7. The only reason i have not stuck 64bit on the notebook is due to low amounts of Ram. I am fairly sure in a few years 32bit will die but it wont be very soon as in the next OS after 8.1.
Hate to bring this up as a comparison but Apple killed off x86 architecture in their OS after Mac OS 10.6 and it seems to be working just fine in the world of Apple [Disclosure: I do not represent Apple in any way, shape or form in the use of this comment.]
Seriously, there is no point in keeping x86 architecture.. I hardly see any new machines with 32-bit rather than x64.. Moreover, memory comes very cheap these days.. from 2gb to 4gb, it hardly increases budget..
The company I work for still has Windows XP as main OS. Most of PCs there are less than 2GB of RAM, so, no point to update - from their point of view - in the near future.
Apart from soon no security updates and will be left wide open to attac and no updates with support for future software etc, soon companies will have to move on.
No, they won't... It's "not necessary". I work on a supermarket, they have at least 10 pcs, runing Windows XP, as cash machines. Why would they upgrade their soft and hardware? How could I make the owner understand that this kind of "money waste" is good for him? Windows XP will live for decades, at least here, in Brasil, where I live.
We all know come 2014 XP will not be updated and will be open to attack from a security point but that wont stop business's not wanting to upgrade. The cost of updating all the hardware might be not worth it still for them. It's also retraining staff, making sure software/hardware devices still work and will cost large business a fortune. (it's got to be done at some point and will) It just wont happen by magic when 2014 hits and support ends. You also have to take into account that the remaining business's could just update the OS possibly the hardware they have supports 32bit Windows 8.1 but does not have the cpu/ram for 64bit. In this case they will still have years of support. You can't just say XP = Every business using 32bit. A fair few are running vista, 7, 8 32bit with CPU's that wont support 64bit or have under 3gb ram. All those PC's would need to be killed off to end 32bit future operating systems. Windows 8 is less of a hog than 7 was i doubt hardware requirements will change drastically over the next few years. I would say as a business with a windows 7 or 8 setup's on 32bit you have nothing to worry about with 32bit support being dropped in the near future because it wont be. Microsoft want your money and along as other business's also are using out dated hardware you are covered for a good few years yet.
hi it is my first post i almost removed all the watermark except this numbers do you know what to edit with resourcehacker? thanks
I would advise against it. Make a wallpaper the same colour as font instead or something. Tampering with windows files even to just remove the watermark can and most likely will have some unwanted effects . Try: 1. Open Personalization -> Desktop Background 2. Select the desired wallpaper image. 3. Choose from the list the "Center" 4. Appeared item click on the "Change Background Color" 5. Choose a color white -> OK 6. Ask in the "Picture position" the desired effect -> Save Changes. Or Make a ProWMC ISO or download one and activate with the free WMC key if you have one. Then just update to 8.1 via the ISO for this build and you should have no watermark. Welcome BTW.
Afaik so far noone found a way to remove this last string...anyone jump in if i´m wrong . Choosing 'white' background colour will result in black text .
Do the method above but black it also works Im sure you can find a nice wallpaper with the bottom half white or black right?
You used to be able to remove it by hex editing shell32.dll but that seems to break explorer if you try that now. The method I mentioned worked on early win 8 builds.
