I actually tried that before realizing that I needed to get my key first in 8.0. It worked, but from what I saw in checking diskpart 3/4 of the way through the install, it looks like it leaves you with no recovery partition at all.
The fifth partition is what is usually referred to as the "Recovery Partition". The first one contains the WinRE Recovery Environment, but the fifth is where the actual recovery image is stored. So you'll notice, for example, that with that method, it'll ask you for install media if you try to refresh or reset.
Well.... Just downloaded the ISO/Drivers. I'm about to read over this thread again and watch everything I do.
Well... I used Wz's original method with the /Recurse parameter... Went through all the steps. Now it's sitting at the "Installing Windows" screen. It finished "Copying Windows files"... but it's been stuck at "Getting files ready for installation (0%)" for 10+ minutes. Hmm... For those of you that have done this... how'd it go? Did it take a long time? Edit: It's now at 6% after about 15 minutes. Edit: It's at 93% after 20 mins. Edit: SUCCESS. It's going through the Account set up process right now. Edit: INSTALLED and Activated. I used my own Product Key. Edit: FINISHED. There was one missing driver but a windows update / firmware update fixed it. Everything is working perfectly. Sound and everything. Were you able to access your product key? I did it by exporting [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion] registry branch on my Surface RT. Then I used a Virtual Machine running Windows 8.1 and replaced the DigitalProductId and DigitalProductId4 keys within the same branch. I then used MagicalJellyBean to check the Product Key of the Virtual Machine. It displays the Product Key from the Surface RT due to using its registry keys.
Of course, I have got it! Finally I need ask to people, we don't need some files in OEM drivers from WZOR, only .inf files?
dism requires you to add drivers by .inf. the dism command to add all drivers from a folder is: Code: dism /image:c:\dump /Add-Driver /Driver:D:\rt\drivers /Recurse Note that even though arseny92 writes that this has to be done carefully, this will work fine in this case. My .wim was apparently in c:\dump and the drivers located in D:\rt\drivers. You need to add drivers both to boot.wim (twice Index:1 and Index:2) and install.wim.
That's great, I was looking for a similar software but couldn't find it! EDIT: An update on Windows 8.1 RT. Today I used my surface for Work for the first time with Windows 8.1 and I can say everything runs perfectly. No broken functionalities, battery life is great (I dare to say: better than Windows 8). The OS is certainly smoother, apps load faster and IE11 is just phenomenal compared to IE10. I experienced absolutely no hangs whatsoever. Yes, the install procedure might be a little risky for someone, but it's certainly Worth it.
Has anyone packaged a Surface RT ISO? This whole business of injecting drivers is daunting if you've never done it before, and don't want to brick your device lol.
