Index one is the one used in upgrades. Index 2 is the boot index. I'll test it today in my integration testing and see if it's actually required.
Finally found some free time to play with these updates again. This time I've installed it on VM running Win 8.1 RTM (not leaked Update 1 as before) and this time there weren't any problems at all. lol First impressions are good. Everything runs smoothly and system is stable. Although I haven't noticed improvement in memory management few of you mentioned early in this thread. Well, maybe it's because I'm comparing VM with real hardware. Taskbar in MetroUI and ability to pin Metro Apps to desktop is quite useful, but right-click context menus in Metro look awful. I'm hoping that they willl fix it in final release. It looks like this update won't bring nothing groundbreaking, but few improvements there and there are always a good thing.
LOL.. No It's just a fancy Keyinfo ...I query pkeyconfig directly thus picked up the new editions ...
lol ... apps cannot be closed by clicking the red shutdown cross top right. Since new update drag down and wait/flip no more exists, apps only can be closed entirely by using altF4 or taskmanager. Guess there is a fix to be done
Any ideas what the ProStudent and CoreConnected is all about? I see there are DM and GVLK keys for those editions as well. no MAK's tho'...Perhaps they are targeting a more junior audience or something....
TO PaulDesmond: Actually that feature is still there only hand cursor don't appear but you can still drag and wait for flip to completely close
bingo ... thanks. Didn't see this and thought the drag down feature has disappeared as the hand had been gone
tested a minute ago like milan pointed out and yes it still works. was my fault not to drag down but only trying to close with little red X on top
Tested this today, doing a preparation test for tomorrow. Upgrade works fine with a boot.wim from the original 8.1 (pre-nov9) I upgraded an x86 system from win8.0 enterprise (not updated at all, no downloads during setup) to win8.1 enterprise (fully updated except defender updates and monthly malicious scan) I'm going to test an x64 win7 to win8.1 enterprise upgrade next, but just assume that it works unless I post again or edit this post. The reason the 8.0 to 8.1 upgrade is more critical is that it's the only way to keep programs and settings. From 7 to 8.1, you cannot keep programs and settings. That being said, I'd still recommend using a boot.wim from one of the newer nov9 vl editions since it fixes a rare <1gb x86 bug that bricks the update process without being able to undo. So yah, until there's a newer build released, you can just go with the nov9 boot.wim and assume everything will be fine. Edit: win7-8.1 worked fine as well, but as mentioned previously, will not save programs and settings. If you want to keep those things, You could try 7-8.0 then 8.0 to 8.1.x
Do I need to create a restore point before using this update? Has anyone had NO issues at all with this update?
to be on the safe most side you should make a backup or create a restore point. Did this and ran the updates on several machines without any issue until now
^^Can vouch for that... the only thing is the large update takes a while before the progress bar shows activity... hope M$ fixes that w/ the final release - can be disconcerting...
