What.... you didn't truly think they were keeping it all for themselves did you? You know how much money is in selling user data? You know how rich facebook is?
Me two, the backups are older so it will probably take a week or so if all goes well. 4 1/2 hours plus up to a week to be fully up to date
I think that is one of the many reasons why they're so good. Russia (and China) have a different mentality concerning hacking. Here it is a crime and even if you do it for the right reasons it can land you either in jail or fined. Over there it is a respected profession and I can actually get a full-time job, on someone's salary with benefits, as a professional white hat hacker. They even teach a level of hacking and cracking in their schools, as opposed to here where it would be beyond taboo.
In fact, all of that AV's etc., etc. are simply as you named Defender! All of them are developed, produced and updated for to make money, one way, or another! Period!
My hand is up! I am not a fanboy and that word is a lackluster though. Defender is just like every other security and anti-malware applications out there. Really, I don't see any part of the source that Microsoft is collecting people data and giving them to third party in the source of the OP. I think the truth of the matter has been played out in more or less in a click-bait thing.
