It's official we have finally reached rock bottom on the Linux Forum. Dude your shaming the entire hardware part of me. The point of a custom gaming machine is for gaming. Along with the flexibility to use software that best suites the system or the person in question. Now if your going to tell me that Linux is buggy as a whole I'll tell ya your full of crap and have no idea what your talking about. Linux has a huge amount of distributions available to it. Hell there are steam games fro linux now shush.
oh, not so extreme, please.. no need to run it on a heavy-duty machine. get up as much steam as you like.. but meanwhile, there are everyday thingies that you need to google, or to duckduckgo.. or mb write a report for a company, no need to use your gaming pc for all that.. and let all those companies read it all.. a simple machine can take care of all that, without having the world looking over your shoulder. i would think linux could do the job, if it crashed less often..
I don't think you guys realize that Linux is more stable than windows is. Have either of you actually used linux at all? In the last 5 years? Also I have used linux for different needs. Windows is a good generic OS that has really nothing special about it. I actually liked the OSX interface more so than Windows. While Linux serves as a good system for basically anything I want it to do.
last time was i think 2012.. installed like a dream. when i booted again after powering off, dead machine. i have no time for that. and i never needed it, untill the nsa and w10 came along. that got me thinking. so when i see a fellow member with a big watercooled machine, i can understand his problems very well.
What his post tells me is that he has no idea what he is doing with the tech he has. You guys keep expecting an OS to be kid friendly in all regards without any time invested into it. I think you guys need to realize that you actually have to learn a new OS to see where it is good and where it sucks. A good example of this is Windows every single program that comes with it sucks with some exclusions. A perfect example of this is Internet Explorer where its primary use is to download another browser lol. This gets back to what I was saying ooo pretty water-cooling rig. It does not mean anything what so ever. I could ask him ok have you ever used mint, knoppix, or debian. And he would probably say no. Ubuntu is basically linux for windows people. It doesn't say your capable of using linux. In other words quit your bitching. If you don't take the time to learn how to use linux then you will never have replies that are worth a damn here.
all i can say to that is that i never took a big hard look at linux, you are quite right there. i had no need, like i said.i am no linux hater at all. i will try any os if it has got someting to offer.. it does not even have to be free.. just m$ forced me to look around. and i do. and for me, no linux. because it crashes, you know.. just my sincere opinion.
With the "spying" revelations, I think that a lot of Windows users are reevaluating their stance on Linux. It's funny, but IIRC this thread started off as a joke thread.
When a corporation like NVidia fights against an OS in the fashion that they have, then I think it's time to avoid using their products. Personally, I respect Linus Torvalds's view with regard to NVidia. And I like that video. What he said rings true. You want to deny support for Linux, yet You want to sell chips to Android phone makers. The same phones that use a Linux OS? What's wrong with that mindset? gogetem Linus! :MJ P.S.: Scenarios like that make Me want to try Linux even more.
I've never had a problem running Linux, not really. Most of the things I need I can usually find somewhere in forums or a wiki here or there. For new users I strongly recommend going Ubuntu or Mint. People have opinions but I know in my case it made me think of Linux as an usable, friendly and reliable OS because I started out with those distros. Whether or not it is better than Windows or Mac or whatever, that depends on the person and it's probably one of those questions that almost always ends up in insults and angry comments. I don't think one is better than the next, I just think people should use what they feel comfortable with, share their experiences and open their minds a little bit.
With all the flavors of Linux you have a choice. With Windows, it's take it or leave it. I choose to leave it.
I no longer play PC games so gaming is no longer an issue for me, I have a PS3 for that. For the first time I can do everything I need to do on Linux [Freya] the only thing that stops me switching is that I have a zillion files on my PC and its running very well with Windows 10. When my present PC dies or has a major problem it is very likely that I will switch, as it is I just cant face the challenge
Gaming on pc was no longer fun for me, so i decided to switch to linux. Last year i tried alot of distro's and always came back to Mint 17 cinnamon (except with mint 17 and 17.1 i had freezing issues, 17.2 has fixed that for me). Windows 10 also got released last year and i tried that one too for 2 months but deleted it and switched back to linux. This because W10 has privacy issues and always reactivated the s**t i turned off. Windows 10 is a big spyware program and that's the main reason i switched to linux. Hehe same here
Linux is way better than Windows. It just don't have a massive support, a.k.a money. He suffers with the GPL thing, making all open source. So they (Canonical, Linux Mint team) don't have money.
