LOL, I know, in win8WDP when I posted in Neowin about the registry trick to bring back the start menu, it was quoted and requoted all over the web, and many "derivative tool" appears. btw, just a runor: some "organizations" already has win8.1 KMS host up and running.
Yeah won't be long till that bombshell hits. Bring on the KMS fun heh just need to wait for a key to leak to upgrade the VM installs with and then someone to make a minikms tool.
And so, i have already posted. Spoiler hxxp://forums.mydigitallife.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=23545&d=1377920752
There was a Russian frankeinbuild that has a activated Enterprise, you need to show something more (like slmgr /dlv) to show it's KMS activated.
Hmm...FaiKee is right this is far from any proof unfortunately, as a hacktivated system would show the same.
I had made a brief check on @MSDNAA's posts, couldn't find he had posted the attachment before, and properties shows file date 9/3,.... I do hope it is legit. The Russian frankeinbuild shows Enterprise activated, no watermark, no time-bomb in winver, but slmgr /dlv shows it's a mak, expires 1/16/2014.
@FaiKee: I need you to clarify something for me, as I have been trying to reproduce your results in Method 1, without success. In your description, you say that licence files (data.dat/tokens.dat) from a Windows 8 WMC should work (as opposed to Windows 8.1 WMC). This has me baffled. Firstly, the format of the licence files has changed between 8 and 8.1. In my experience with some other tests, files that worked in 8 in the store folder don't work in 8.1 in the store\2.0 folder. There is no reason to think that pasting files from 8 into the store\2.0 folder would do anything. As a sign that this might be true, look at the screenshots you posted yourself in the OP: in the result of slmgr /dlv, the notification reason is 0xC004FE00, which means "licence files have been tampered with". I figured maybe I'm wrong, and it's worth a test anyway, so I followed your procedure. However, once I install from the Win 8.1 Pro WMC ISO, and check the result, I see that it didn't work. Specifically: 1) The product key I entered during the preparation of the ISO has been wiped by Windows. slmgr /dlv shows a partial of JK7QT, which is the default 8.1 Pro WMC key. 2) The licence files in the store\2.0 folder have been wiped and replaced by Windows with fresh ones (of much smaller size) 3) When I try to enter a WMC key with slmgr /ipk, it's not accepted with the familiar error message that it's only for an upgrade. Lastly, the PCBeta guy has, in the post you linked, shared a set of licence files you can download, suggesting that the process doesn't work without licence files from 8.1. In conclusion: can you please confirm that you have, personally, taken actual files (data.dat/tokens.dat) from a Windows 8 Pro WMC install, and were successful in reproducing the results in Method 1? If you in fact have not, what was the source of the licence files you used? Edit: I'm particularly curious about the source of your licence files because I think I remember reading in one of your posts that you yourself don't use WMC.
Good, i thought of writing here myself. After vast and numerous test below are my result 1.Upgrade from win 8 pro to win 8.1 pro [ kms activated ] - FAIL 2.Clean install of win 8.1 pro [ kms activated *dat files replaced with dism ] - FAIL 3.Upgrade from win 8 pro wmc to win 8.1 pro wmc [ kms activated ] - FAIL 4.Clean install of win 8.1 pro wmc [ pro-kms activated+wmc activated *dat files replaced with dism ] - FAIL 5.Clean install of win 8.1 pro wmc [ pro-mak activated+wmc activated *dat files replaced with dism ] - FAIL 6.Clean install of win 8.1 pro wmc [ pro-OEM telephone activated+wmc activated *dat files replaced with dism ] -PASS 7.Clean install of win 8.1 pro wmc [ pro-retail 15$ online activated+wmc activated *dat files replaced with dism ] - PASS 8.Clean install of win 8.1 pro use retail $15 to activate 8.1 pro online then upgrade with previously used WMC key online - PASS 9. Clean install 8.1 pro wmc with [ *dat files from test 8 ] - PASS 10.Clean install of win 8.1 pro wmc [ pro-retail 40$ online activated+wmc activated *dat files replaced with dism ] - PASS 11.clean install of win 8.1 pro use retail $40to activate 8.1 pro online then upgrade with previously used WMC key online - PASS 12. Clean install of win 8.1 pro wmc [ pro-retail 69$ online activated+wmc activated *dat files replaced with dism ] - PASS 13. Clean install of win 8.1 pro use retail $69 to activate 8.1 pro online then upgrade with previously used WMC key online - PASS 14. Clean install of win 8.1 pro wmc [ pro-MSDN activated+wmc activated *dat files replaced with dism ] - Fail note the msdn dat file was provided by jessica albs here lat time. so i believe *.dat file from a retail key is needed for successful activation
Thanks for your results, just a quick question about these two: Are the *dat files in these two tests from a window 8 store folder? Just to be clear I understand this correctly: for example, in test 6, you had a windows 8 system already that was [pro-OEM telephone activated+wmc activated], you took the *dat files from the store folder from that, and placed them into the store\2.0 folder when preparing win 8.1 pro wmc iso. This iso could then be used to install/activate. Is this correct?
Sorry kelogo, snipped your post, no point to double post a long post. - You guessed correctly, the license files were from the PCBeta guy, he said it's from win8Pro, actually one thing interesting is that, he and some PCBeta guys had found out that - only need to replace the tokens.dat, no need to replace data.dat. - Another guy has posted about the same thing, but he uploaded his win8.1 WMC license files. - Now there are 3 threads in PCBeta about the same thing, all have confirmation that it works, although some said didn't work for them, probably they did something incorrectly. - No idea why you didn't made it work, maybe you didn't use retail license files? PCBeta guy had said that if you don't replace with good license files, you won't be able to import the WMC key. ...and @BTOR, tks for detail report, but I need some time to digest it, busy on something else.
From what I understood, I should be able to activate a Win8/8.1 Pro with WMC only with a WMC key (even if I don't have Win8 Pro key), am I right ?
The version in the WIM is fixed by DISM command (set-editionrofessionalWMC), it won't accept a Pro key, even if you have one.
Lol well odd one of my legit WMC key i got from the Microsoft promotion also ends in F88Y3 >.< it works and is legit btw never had any issues lol.
