didn't think of that Makes you wonder if they have a failsafe activation fix for other activation file swapped versions of windows like Pro or Core.
Excellent job BTOR testing that stuff. I think it's very likely that we won't be able to upgrade any 8.1 activation from pro to prowmc using a pro activated with kms v6 or a new volumeMAK. Seems like they closed this loophole. I was wondering why a kms activated pro+phone wmc didn't work...
Anything is possible with software, but in this case, it's not worth the effort. The files do not run under other versions of windows, so you would have to edit them. How would you edit them? Don't know, and don't care. There's gotta be other media apps you could use... does VLC media player have tv tuner support n stuff?
Thank you BTOR for this awesome job. How about upgrading from Windows 8 Pro KMS Activated and then activated permanently using free WMC key? Does this passes the test?
4.Clean install of win 8.1 pro wmc [ pro-kms activated+wmc activated *dat files replaced with dism ] - FAIL
There are 2 setup.exe's, one in root, and one in sources\ ; try hit the other one. When I used VM to install, it's like booting from a DVD, so you may have to burn it to DVD/USB FD to try.
we racked our brain trying to get the setup.exe from sources\ to work with upgrade. It won't The only way to keep your programs is to either: not have an ei.cfg or have an ei.cfg set to a specific editionid -and- run setup.exe from the root or sources\installprep.exe which is called by the root setup
Now, I have the same files (data and tokens) activated Windows 8.1 Pro + Upgrade WMC, my legitimate keys. If I Method 1 would be enough to do a clean install?
I don't know, it's the name given to index 1, but you could try, I don't know if there is a DISM command to rename indexes.
