I've tried this before, it does not work, the system restarts and prior to loading up the Windows loading page it BSOD's. I've tried various combinations. I first need to install 4GB, shut down the PC then install the additional 2GB for the PC to boot up without any issues.
most likely it is the hardware limitation of your motherboard. most older boards only support 2-3 GB of ram
This motherboards limitation is 8GB, PC is only a year old. SO I enabled the memory hole within the BIOS, installed the latest Nvidia driver 190.62 (DirectX ver 11.0)....same thing. In System Properties: 6GB installed (3GB usable) 64bit Resource Monitor under Physical memory shows the following: Available: 1984 MB Cached: 1954 MB Total: 3070 MB Installed: 6144 MB Hardware Reserved: 3074 MB In Use: 1061 MB Modified: 64 MB Standby: 1912 MB Free: 56 MB
does it have integrated graphics on the motherboard? if it does try disabling in the bios and check again.
on my bios its under advanced chipset config. and disable uma to disable the integrated graphics i have 4gb of ram and it said 3.75 usable with 5.9 memory rating in WEI. I disabled the integrated graphics and now it just says 4.00 GB and the memory rating went up to 7.2
Hoi ! Same problem here: 64-bits Vista 7 RTM, uses only 3,25 Gig from the 6 Gig's. On the same PC is Vista Ultimate 64-bits installed, and Vista just uses the full 6 Gig's ! So I think it can't be a hardware-problem. When I look with Everest at my modded bios (HP-slic), I see also the following string: MCFG: Memory Mapped Configuration Space Base Address Description Table TabelbeschrijvingMemory Mapped Configuration Space Base Address Description Table GeheugenadresCFEE9C80h Tabellengte60 bytes OEM IDHPQOEM OEM Table IDGBTUACPI OEM Revision42302E31h Creator IDGBTU Creator Revision01010101h So my question is: could this be the reason of this problem ? Greetz, Harry.
Well, looking further into this issue, I've realized that many users are reporting similar problems with how many GBytes of memory are actually being used from the total installed. If I ever come up with a solution I will post my results.
Solution to the issue Goto Msconfig Boot->Advanced Options Just check the status of Maximum Memory If it is enabled, disable and re-enable to support your maximum memory. After the maximum RAM has been activated in the system again come back and disable the check. I had 8GB DDR2 installed on my laptop and for this reason only it was showing 2.96GB usable.
Your motherboard can only address up to 4 GB of memory, and you probably have 1 GB reserved for the onboard video I bet, leaving you with 3 GB. It looks like you separately installed a 8800 GT so disable the motherboard on-board video.
I am not having any issues with my intall of win 7 x64 Ulimate. I have 6 gigs of DDR3 on a I7 920. Reports 6 gigs and thats it. I would say it has something to do with onboard things like video, sound, etc. reserving space.
In this context 'LFB' describes dedicated RAM for the onboard graphic. If the onboard graphic is disabled then the framebuffer is not needed either. Standalone GFX cards have their own frame buffers. (A.K.A. RAM/Memory.)
