Do you know if MS has any rhyme or reason to when a new platform gets released to the public? For example, patch Tuesday is always the second Tuesday of the month.
Same as the LCU and NETFX3.5 and 4.8 previews we get on the third and fourth week of every month, except for December. There's no pattern to when they decide to release updates or even platform updates.

Hi, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask. But is it normal for the old versions of the Anti-Malware platform to stick around in the "\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Platform\" folder? For example I have three different versions there. And secondly; are those old versions something I can clean-up safely by deleting them or should those naturally get deleted over time by Windows cleanup?
Thank you very much for the info. But would, if you even could, deleting the older versions, specifically the oldest one of the three, harm the Windows install? Sorry for the question that may be rather obvious, helping a friend who wants answers to soothe his nerves.
It's fine with the 3rd oldest and beyond. I would not do it when you have just two. Microsoft have in fact reverted to the older platform on some occasions. Same for the monthly cumulative updates lingering in C:\WINDOWS\servicing\LCU\
Thank you once again! And thank you too says my friend. Now he can get a bit of peace of mind, and I can go relax. Hope you have a great day.
