If you have a Windows.old directory after the update, or a full system backup, then copying the spp directory in c:\windows\system32 from old to current will restore your activation.

Depends how you activated? If you have created a scheduled task then you won't need to use the activator again. If you've used any portable activator then you've to use it again after expiration.
I used the Command technique to activate it since the activation tools (Microsoft toolkit) didn't work for me. Added a host address.
Most KMS tools only activate VL office, KMSpico is the only one that can activate retail office too. There also exist scripts that can convert retail office to VL.
