I've analysed the latest beta version of this, The same problem of v2.0 -> The poor application security engine Easy killing the services, and unregistering all dlls, an malware can remove completely the AV from the computer, and infect this Very poor, Avast, Comodo, and Avira have this protection, and I have sure, the Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus is one of the most vulnerable there, in Cracking language. Waiting improvements for v4 final.
I wonder if the W8CP equivalent (Windows Defender) has this new updated version in already, I see the MSE 4 Update has a File Signature date of 28th Feb? Tried doing a Windows Update but nothing shows up.
MSE BETA 4.0.1512 х86 hxxp://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/crup/2012/03/updateinstall_738c8aceb38a5a2074c9556bc6a3e372ae67da7d.exe
v4.0.1512 seems to have added back some of the Settings that I think were missing in the initial release (Default actions) & also they've renamed/shortened Microsoft Active Protection Service in Settings to MAPS, other than that can't really see any other changes?
Which safety problems? Both links added now. Those are only the GUI changes you mentioned. But there are many internal changes.
I'm aware of that & it's a no brainer really, I mean it's a big leap in version no. I was merely listing the changes I'd noticed that I could actually see.
hi Josh Cell I agree with you also. I hope they will fix this in next versions. someone tried to install it on Windows 8, I can not do it.
i use it at win 8 extract installer... start the exe file.. then it works same with offline updates (newer version) but there start the msi after extraction
