Dear 2centsworth! Have you read the complete post from your link? I dont think they will verify the OEM Licence online! It makes no sense! They plan to look for hacks (like Paradox Royal.sys and others) but not a modded BIOS. When the licence is from a real OEM computer (with the Paradox EMU Toolkit we can dump the original OEM Information and I know that the 4 Licences that are in the Paradox Toolkit are from ORIGINAL OEM Machines) So, if Microsoft will do this they will get real problem with REAL OEM Computers. I hope you get my clue! Bye
Agreed. Think about it, hundreds or even possibly thousands of OEM computers have been installed with a single OEM licence key legally by the manufacturers! So if they were to shut it down it could be devastating to microsoft, and their customers confidence within them! Ie they wouldn't even try it!!
Dear Mtthwpez! OK, you get my clue! I will say you, even they CAN do it, they dont WILL do it! The risk is too high, that they will affected real OEM Machines. Bye
Can the bios just be moddified further to make the manufacturer match the Slic ? I have 3 mobo's currently with asus bios mods. BFG 680i, DFi NF4, Asus NF4. Obviously the asus should be fine but I am worried about the other 2 as i use them for media center PC's. Wouldnt bother with vista for anything else, its a hunk of ****.
Seems very clear that there are many ways to detect a modified SLIC entry in the BIOS does not match the hardware. Nothing stops MS from comparing the BIOS ID and the SLIC OEMID and seeing many do not match. Also the common ASUS mod shows as a notebook, it's evident the microprocessor lines used on desktops are not notebook microprocessors, as well as other obvious mismatches. The real question is will MS go this far, if so when...considering how wide spread actual physical BIOS mods have become recently. Personally I've made several test PC's and put them online watching them. asus m2a-vm = asus SLIC (is this from an EEE PC?) ECS G31T-M = Dell SLIC (ECS did once OEM to lenovo/IBM and HP among others) Dell 5160 laptop using 2.1.2 bootloader and Dell certs Wait and see...I doubt this first scanner looks for more than the known exploits ie: bootloader and emulator and trial extender. Looks like this scanner only recognizes the paradox emulator and the timer hack at this time.
Dear 2centsworth! Interesting what you wrote! Yeah, the real question is how far will MS go! But I think they will not touch anything what is going on with hardware. I think they will fight against the precracked Versions (what they actually do). Every Noob can install Vista precracked. So, I dont think that we are affected at no time Vista exits. Bye
