Now all we need is a workaround for installing KB2756872.
Not even a clean install worked in my case.

Hmmm.. thankfully, I installed KB2756872 back on 31 Oct and did not have any problems. Choked on 2770917 today - and saved by the workaround. Don't have a clue as to which particular third party service caused the problem -
I see many rumblings elsewhere about antivirus or some audio video drivers causing the error on KB2756872 but there does not seem to be anything definitive. Hang in there.... with the significant number of people having the problem, hopefully there will be a workaround discovered soon...

KB2756872 doesn't install for me either, although I haven't tried a clean install (but I did restore an image I made after I installed Windows 8 and that didn't work). It fails and reverts changes at 98% and the same happens when I install KB2770917. I tried disabling non-Microsoft services, and that didn't work work.

did you disable non-Microsoft services and try installing only KB2770917 by itself, or along with other updates like KB2756872 at the same time?

I tried installing it on its own. It fails at 98% just as KB2756872 does. I guess it won't install because KB2756872 isn't installed.

These problems have only occurred on my main PC. I've had no problem installing the updates on my laptop.

I had problem with KB2770917 too.
I resolve it disable all non-microsoft services in msconfig, restart and install KB2770917, after restart and enable again the services had stop before.
Test in 2 pc and work 100%.

A colleague of mine was having problems with KB2756872 - he was told by a M$oft tech to uninstall his audio video drivers and 3rd party Anti Virus, install the update and then re-install the drivers. Worked for him, but I cannot say whether it is worth trying since no personal experience with it. Maybe if you don't have anything better to do this weekend,,, :)

I've tried doing that and it didn't work. That fixes the issue where KB2756872 fails at 13%, but not the issue where it fails at 98%. o_O

I did a clean install on both of my computers. All updates went fine.

My Windows 2012 standard when installing the updates it installed KB2756872 first then the others

On my Windows 8 Ent machine it Installed KB2770917 first then KB2756872, very strange, lol

Now when you re-enable all services, how you know which ones were enabled and the services that were disabled?

In my case at least, I had all the non-ms services enabled. There were only a handful of them. VMware, Google update, 3rd party vpn and backup services.

That really stinks.. after disabling all non-ms services and uninstalling drivers, pretty much all that's left is microsoft's own stuff.. if their own stuff gets in the way of their own fixes - that's bad news indeed. I hope they are working on a fix/alternative.....maybe on the next Update Tuesday...

Dude I had the same god damn issue today and last month, the computer reboots and the monitor just turns off on off on off on off on over and over.

F8 wouldn't have saved you in my case - Safe mode did the exact same s**t.

Luckily going into System Restore I was able to go back a few days which DID fix it. Why the hell wasn't a restore point created when it installed the updates?

    Gah. Blah. Brah.

Thought this would be interesting. I am in the process of updating from Windows Update right now, Ill let you know in a week or 3, this poor little machine can't take much more hahah

but curious of its a bottleneck somewhere with the updates or what, so I thought I would try using a low power system

Same damn thing that happened to me, did you have a theme patcher installed? I did a system restore, uninstalled theme patcher. Then did the updates, rebooted it worked fine. Then I installed theme patcher again and it's still ok. MS must not want us to use custom themes, only their God awefull one.

I´m using the service based Uxstyle patch provided here on mdl :cool2:. Untouched system files = no problems :D.

I stopped all non MS services, downloaded autoruns and stopped anything else non MS, removed start menu, still won't update KB2770917.
Back to the bad old MS days, fortunately I only bought 8 because it was cheap and am dual booting, if this is the new post Sinofsky standard heaven help MS's future
