MSE has been screaming about keygens since around mid-May 2010. Especially relating to Tuvi's hack. Solution (before running Tuvi's hack and min-KMS) is to turn off firewall and MSE (if possible). Regarding the small font watermark reading `evaluation copy'.., hardly a bother. We have bigger shortcut icons on the desktop and one usually does not switch on the PC to admire the desktop screen.
installed KB2032276 on several modded systems (no SP1 there) - runnig ok, no any problems still didn't try it on pre-activated systems .... so..
Just another suggestion, can we have fixes (if available) for anyone who accidentally installed an update that shows there windows as not genuine ie. after the kb971033 update.
I am fairly new to Windows 7 and the Windows Updates Downloader is a great idea that I'm anxious to use. I have some questions. 1I never use Internet Explorer. Why should I update something I never use? 2Some updates are for x86 and some are for x64. My puter is X64. Why should I update X86 updates? 3Some updates are for Windows server. I am not running as a server nor will I ever run as a server. Need it or not? 4.What the heck is silverlight? I read the official explanation but I can't comprehend it. 5,What are W2-K8 updates and do I need them? 6.I have Windows Defender turned off and using 3rd party anti virus and firewall. Do I need Win Defender updates? 7.I don't have Microsoft Security Essentials. I'm guessing I don't need updates for it. Thank you for all the hard work you do discussing updates.
1. If you go into add remove features u can uninstall IE and you should not get any more updates. 2. Yes because some of the updates do not have x64 versions so you need the x86 updates. 6. No you do not. 7. Correct you do not need updates for defender. As long as you keep your antivirus updated you will not need SE or WD. Hope this helps.
kb2286198 Anyone with issues from this latest security update? Seems to be a minor hiccup with Windows Explorer: krebsonsecurity.com kb2286198 "Patch for Critical Windows Flaw Available" (can't post link!)
After posting above, I went ahead and updated kb2286198 and am pleased to say that all is working normally. I am using IR4 3.1 on Windows 7 ultimate x64.
Hi all, I have a few questions. I've just started using ultimate 64bit win7 having used the beta and then the RC, which i ran through from feb to late last month with truing windows update to off and by setting my clock back. So i've installed and activated my win7 ultimate using a loader(Daz's) for the first time ever. I've only d/loaded the more important drivers manually for most of my hardware because i had initially turned windows update to 'remind' before activating it with Daz I have 36 important and 39 optional d/loads waiting and when reading the OP i'm struggling to work out if i should get all the non risky one's. and is it a good idea to only get the most important ones and just leave the rest? and yeah i'm a bit of a noob because in an old fashioned way i still manually install drivers using the manufactures website for the latest driver d/load.... but is it perfectly safe to d/load third party drivers via windows update right? the more efficient way of doing things? Also, what is the way to go with firewalls? should i be using windows firewall or my Avira AntiVir (free) firewall? sorry bout off topic sorry about all those questions but this loader seems soooo goood and i just don't want to jeopardize it. has anyone using a loader installed every update and been fine? Any advice would be very much appreciated. cheers, Sublimit .
I just set up a friend's pc with a new install of Ultimate yesterday, using Daz's Loader. As you said, about 36 updates and a couple of optional (most you can ignore unless you need the language packs). Just ignore the one ending with KB...1033 - it will be installed when you validate at microsoft.com/genuine anyway. For now, windows firewall and MSE seems like a solid combination. All other updates seem fine to date.
I just got 14 new updates this morning - any word? Testing on a VM now, will report back if there are any problems.
well, the VM seems ok so far...havent installed it on any important machines yet. will test the VMs over the next couple of days before doing so.
hope someone will test on pre-act ones...coz if something goes wrong with my machine...i wont be able to fix it by myself...would really appreciate if someone would post results.. thanks in advance...
This is great, also test my tool You can use my tool, Always Safe: forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/20043-Windows-7-Offline-Updates
There are so many security ones in this batch for x64 - I wonder if any would affect the IR4 machines.
installed all last updates (important, recommended, optional) on pre-activated win 7 x64. used normal working PC, not VM, played with clocks moving forward and back, made at least 8 reboots during this. 3rd day running, seems everything is ok. added: Also installed updates on pc with slic bios. didn't paly with clocks, but it's also still running. The only problem happend that Volume indicator on the task bar is indicating red cross and bubbleup "the audio servicw is not running". anyway all sound features work fine including volume control. very strange but nothing bad ^)
