Where do you get SW_DVD9_Win_Svr_STD_Core_and_DataCtr_Core_2016_64Bit_English_-2_MLF_X21-22843.ISO? It is not in the OP. Is it trusted source like technet?
If the only difference between Windows Standard Server and Windows Hyper-V Server is the number of CPUs, ram, and allowed virtual machines... Why is there nearly a 3GB difference in their ISO size?! Standard 5.2 GB Hyper-V 2.5 5.2 - 2.5 = 2.7 GB difference.
With good reason as Nano is basically only a dos prompt (generally speaking). However, unless everyone's documentation is incorrect, Standard and Hyper-V are meant to be identical except for the fact that Hyper-V can use more cpu, ram, and run unlimited virtuals. So I find it puzzling that the file size is different.
So basically a dos prompt (generally speaking), much like how Nano is. OK, that clears it up. Thank you, T-S. Google has failed me today since everyone kept saying the two were identical. lol
Nano doesn't even have a "Dos prompt" it's meant to be fully administered remotely, with just an emergency console to get out of troubles. Instead all the recent servers can be managed fully trough a local CMD or PS command prompt, the idea is to ape what was possible with unix/or linux since the beginning. The OS doesn't require a GUI to work, but you can install it optionally. HV is offered of free and doesn't have that option
Thanks for clearing that up T-S Now I just need to decide between Windows Server Standard or Datacenter. I've loaded Standard into a VM and it seems to boot quicker than the preview of Datacenter (surprised I was). The interesting part will be trying to get Store to work (been reading about the issues folks maybe having with it and wishing someone more skilled knew the solution).
Just tested this SW_DVD9_Win_Svr_STD_Core_and_DataCtr_Core_2016_64Bit_English_-2_MLF_X21-22843.ISO. It is VLK. My local KMS server running MTK 2.6.1 activated Server 2016 at first login. Now it is time to revamp home lab with all 2016 products (Exchange, Ops Mgr, Virtual Machine Mgr, Config Mgr, Service Mgr, Orchestrator, SQL Server & Office). Will be using MTK 2.6.2 as local KMS server on Windows 7 to activate.
Theoretically they are the same technically. Datacenter differs just because different licensing, so higher limits on CPU number, supported ram and so on. I haven't noticed differences between the two, anyway I have the standard flavor installed as I have no use of datacenter "features" Test MSMG. It's surely the best option for a system not yet installed, not just because the store but because you can remove/add/customize other things as well.
MSMG? This is the 3rd time you've said "MSMG" and the problem is I do not know what that is, where to find information about it, how to obtain it, ect.. ect..
In 2012 there wasn't really any difference between the two; it was merely a licensing problem. However, with 2016 they've introduced a feature split: Datacenter gets Storage Spaces Direct, Shielded VMs and the Networking Stack etc whereas these are not included with Standard. blogs.technet.microsoft.com/ausoemteam/2016/07/26/windows-server-2016-editions
For Server, it's NOT OK to remove Microsoft-Antimalware-Scan-Interface-Core-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.14393.0. Why? System corrupt with Link Error! Similar to IE. Why?
