Can someone explain to me why the RTM home was released as an exe for some languages? So there was no retail official CD for this version when XP came out? Or it was reserved to OEMs?
afair the FPP (retail) exe released on MS-Downloadcenter and the FPP (retail) iso's on MSDN (depend on the supscription-level) and as FPP (retail) CDROM's for the shops
Im looking for an untouched 32-bit XP Professional iso, I tried installing the SP3 version on an old laptop but the cd key on the back sticker of the laptop says it is invalid so preferrably an iso without service pack or with an older service pack that still will accept the cd key (which I know for a fact is 100% valid and legally obtained), from what I was able to gather it is related to later installations handling old keys differently or maybe I am talking out of my butt. Any help is appreciated!
i guess you install Pro FPP SP3 and your sticker on the laptop is a Pro OEM key (Home key) !? need more info (SHA1 of your XP-pro) !! what say's pidchecker to your used key ??
I tried installing "en_windows_xp_professional_with_service_pack_3_x86_cd_x14-80428" but it told me that the cd key was invalid. The Ultimate PIDChecker says //--- The Ultimate PID Checker v1.1.3.590 by janek2012 --- Product Key : My key Profile : NT 5.x Validity : Valid Product ID : Not sure if I should hide this so I did but if it doesn't matter I can provide it Editions : OEM-PRO-OEM OEM-PRO-RETAIL OEM-pro-sp3-OEM OEM-PRO-SP3-RET-82860A56 Key Type : OEM Benchmark: 2,203 seconds

no, all Microsoft activation Server are still online. the reason why online activation and a lot of web-sides seems to doesn't work anymore == Root certificates have expired !!! you must first update the Root certificates offline after you Install such 12 Years old OS like XP the XP-Client (or vista or win7 Client) cant be verified by the Microsoft activation Server with expired Root certificates
ok we run out a little bit of Topic (may be we need a new Thread for "XP-SP3 Post setup") rootsupd.exe is also obsolete and / or not designed for Win XP and not updated anny more you can apply rootsupd.exe on win7+ i try it on a fresh installd win7 sp1u but it dont solve the problems (similar the same as on XP). to solve the problems i have download the latest win7 Post SP from chip online and run it - one of the the earliest things what this Post SP doing is setup IE 11 - after IE11 the Post SP update the Root certificates -> after this two steps all network traffic works fine but i dont know if this procedure works also on XP - setup latest IE 8 offline (afaik the last version wich works on XP) - then update the Root certificates (edit the win7 Post SP script by this way that only the Root certificates where updated - disable all other features that not belongs to XP)
You're right. I just tested with a MITM proxy (fiddler4) and it's works i obtain unauthorized key instead of connection error.
@gnogas For offline activation. You may need to restore an image from the laptop manufacturer. For more details, see this topic. https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/the-windows-xp-oembios-archive.9795/
this is more or less absolut nonsense !! the laptop manufacturer just install the OEM product from MS add some driver and run the OEM Preinstallations Kit (OPK) to remouve the user acount from the image. in most cases the image itself is stored on a hidden Partition - similar no user have a backup of this Partition ! -> thats why this "recovery cds" dont work for most user. i have never seen that a manufactur - preaktivate XP - and/or ships the PC with a full CD-set for a compleate recovery of XP however such a recovery from the laptop manufacturer have the same problems as a fresh setup from the MS OEM image - IE is to old - Root certificates have expired !! -> network traffic (web-traffic) fails
Wrong, Windows NT 5.x System Locked Preinstallation is FUNDAMENTALLY different. 5.x (XP, Server 2003) uses SLP 1.0, working with manufacturer strings in BIOS. It does not use SLIC tables at all, these only came with SLP 2.0 and NT 6.0. Parts: 1. Manufacturer string in BIOS/UEFI. AFAIK, no popular Loader for SLP 1.0 exists. 2. Custom OEM media installing the correct, matching OEMBIOS set for the manufacturer string etched into the BIOS. Alternatively, injecting the correct OEMBIOS set using the OEMBIOS installer (see sticky). 3. Matching SLP 1.0 OEM product key (installed by the OEMBIOS installer tool or already injected in the OEM media). 1+2+3 = activated.
