Yes but in Elementary OS they made making shortcuts on the Desktop close to impossible... So, one must try various roundabouts to get it to be in the Dock... Otherwise, Rokkr, for instance, is flying!
No need. Delete them. Download new versions. Activate them to behave as executables. As far as I understand it. Am I wrong on this?
I use both OpenOffice and LibreOffice on my three of four computers. What I use it for depends on the computer whose character I'm sitting on. To me, both are equally as good.
@smallhagrid I have really enjoyed this thread and I appreciate all your good work! I agree with your choices and your arguments for at least try Linux, and get people to overcome FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) about the distros that are available. 1. Linux Mint and Ubuntu are the best choices to try Linux out, using the DVD or USB stick for booting, if you only have one PC. 2. The best approach in my opinion, is to get an older machine thus reducing e-waste and lessening the impact of perfectly useful electronics that would be thrown away. 3. You can run it very well on an Intel Core 2 Duo with 8 GB of RAM and a conventional spinning disk. It will run as fast as Windows 10 with twice the specs! 4. As far as your situation goes, have you tried the LXLE distro (lxle.net) They are based on Lubuntu x 64 and x 86 versions. They will update to the latest version of Ubuntu (18.04.5) at first boot. They use SeaMonkey as a browser, and have wonderful wallpaper. It uses much less resources than Ubuntu and of course you can install anything from Ubuntu. Customization is same as your present OS. Thanks for all you have done and keep trying, lxle_adopter
I think it was always possible for people to move to linux. Anything that you can do in windows you can also do in linux. People are stuck with the idea that linux is difficult to use, and is terminal only, and there's a lot work to get it up and running, etc. In my opinion windows dominate desktops because they understood two things: 1. ease of use 2. prettiness. They assumed people would like the OS to be as easy to use as possible and as alluring.
