I'm no fan of VIA chipsets, but it is rock stable in all - except gaming :) Since I was using ATI R9100 card before and updated just because of the crashes during loading of the level, then I somewhat did not believe that using ATI gfx card could fix anything. Tried already... failed.

If I can source the replacement cap, then I expect that things start working ;) Because what else it could be, when sometimes the PC refuse to change from text (bios/post) mode into the VGA mode? When heated up, it works. That figures, because caps have best ripple current characteristic around 50°C... ;)

only thing i remember is the cpu must be 800 fsb or higher .. dont think 533 fsb works on it.

u can also run apple osx on it with nvidia card or some ati.

if its intel chipset 7 ich7 or higher it should work. realtek audio and lan is easy to force to load in osx.

spare hdd (to not delete your windows.. unplugg hdd) and 8gb usb is all u need.

I recently tried to work some of my older motherboards to build PCS for kids to use. They developed strange problems like they refuse to wake up from sleep or are unstable. I replaced caps, coin cell battery and nothing fixed it. Don't waste your time with that old junk. Have it recycled. You can buy a super cheap Celeron 847 itx motherboard that will smoke that Prescott space heater.

And yes, VIA chipsets are total JUNK.

pro can use ddr2 or dr1 .. multi slot ?
while non pro is ddr1 only.

osx is for intel chipset board.. like my G31M-es2l .. or G41m-es2l

goldfinger - yes, that are these weird problems I'm facing now. Truth to be told, I just played a little with the A9RX480 Sapphire mobo, because the Opteron 148 can do at 2200MHz the SuperPI under 40sec, while P4 need 45sec at 3200MHz - yet as soon, as I tried to push for the normal clocks (eg. not run rams at 133MHz but at 200MHz - not yet O/C the CPU at all, I was running it at 2800MHz before), multiple problems arised.
The mobo is not stable at all.
I can only hope that this is because of the known bad caps in the Enermax 620W Liberty PSU. But if I wrong, then all is lost :(
Indeed I would like to buy a new mainboard, but even you claim it is supercheap, I cannot afford it at all. I have to fix these problems ;)
No argument about the VIA chipsets, but recapped the board works just great - except for the graphis card output. That is a major drawback and problem...

LatinMcG - yes, you are right, the Pro can utilize both rams, but the mobo have only two DDR(1) slots. So that pretty much define, what rams can be used, right?
Mac OS X only for the Intel board - yep, that sounds about reasonable. However that does not help me at all, because I have no intel board at all. But plenty of old VIA chipset mainboards! 2x KT266A in the JetWay V266B mainboards, KT600 in the Soltek SL-KT600-R mobo, KT600 in the JetWay V600DAP mobo and finally the P4M800 (Pro?) in the MSI PM8M3-V mobo :D
More VIA chipsets that are healty to own :D
And yes, there is the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 chipset in the S939 mobo ;)
